How to fix Overwatch not working

Overwatch is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

1. Restart Overwatch and the launcher

   Close Overwatch and the launcher. Open Task Manager to end any game or launcher tasks, then start the game again. On console, quit the game from the dashboard and launch it to clear a stuck login or matchmaking state.

2. Switch to a wired connection

   Plug an Ethernet cable into your PC or console. If you cannot, restart your router and keep other devices off the network while you test. Packet loss shows up as rubber banding and disconnects even when your speed test looks fine.

3. Scan and repair the game files

   Open the desktop launcher, select Overwatch, click the gear next to Play, and choose Scan and Repair. Wait for the check to finish, then start the game. On console, uninstall and reinstall the game from your library if the problem keeps happening.

4. Lower graphics and close overlays

   Open Options > Video. Set Graphics Quality to Low and change Display Mode to Fullscreen. Cap the frame rate to 60 if your monitor supports a higher refresh rate, and close capture software or hardware monitors if the game still crashes.

While Overwatch is down: what to use instead

• Marvel Rivals It plays as a 6v6 hero shooter on PC and consoles and runs on its own servers, so an outage on Blizzard's side won't stop you from getting matches in.
• Team Fortress 2 You get payload and capture point modes on Steam.
• Valorant Pick it up when you want ranked play with hero abilities but prefer slower, round-based gunfights over constant team fights.
• Twitch or YouTube Watch a high-rank player on your main hero, because the positioning and cooldown habits you notice are easy to try once Overwatch comes back.
