How to fix Metronet not working
Metronet is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach metronet.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Check Metronet reports
Read the top status. It counts user problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours and shows whether they are above their usual level; the page does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor the service.
Restart the router
Unplug the router's power cable, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in. Give the lights 2 to 3 minutes to settle before you test a device, because a router that powers on but never brings up its internet light needs a different check.
Rejoin the Wi-Fi network
On a phone, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the network name, then Forget This Network and join it again. On Windows, go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select the network, choose Forget, then reconnect.
Test a wired connection
Connect a laptop to the router with an Ethernet cable and turn off Wi-Fi so traffic uses the cable. If the wired link works, your Wi-Fi setup or device is the problem; if it fails too, the service or router is the place to look next.
While Metronet is down: what to use instead
- Mobile hotspot Turn on your phone's hotspot and connect a laptop when you need a working connection for email and banking.
- Public Wi-Fi Use a library or cafe network if you must send a file or check an account while the home connection is out.
- Cellular data Switch to cellular data for maps and messages.
- Support phone line Call the provider from a mobile phone if the account page will not load, and ask for an outage update.
Problems at the same time as Metronet
Since 27 October, all 3 of Metronet's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.
When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

What happens when Metronet goes down
Metronet is a home internet provider. Households, remote workers, students and small offices rely on it for browsing, streaming, video calls and connected devices, so an outage leaves you with pages stalled, video calls frozen, streams stuck and smart devices offline even when the Wi-Fi signal still shows.
Pages stall first. The Wi-Fi signal still looks fine; you cannot load email, streaming stalls, video calls freeze and smart-home devices drop offline. Problems can be regional or partial: one neighborhood loses service while nearby streets stay online, or only some devices fail behind a working router. The status at the top of each page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; it does not ping, probe, poll or monitor the service itself, and it never checks from multiple locations.

How we track Metronet
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Metronet, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Metronet, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Metronet doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
