Troubleshooting

How to fix Fido not working

Fido is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach fido.ca over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Cycle Airplane Mode

Open Control Center on iPhone or pull down the quick settings shade on Android, tap the airplane icon, and leave it on for ten seconds. That forces a fresh registration on the network. A stuck connection sits behind plenty of 'No Service' errors and dead data sessions.

  2. Restart and Check Mobile Data

Power the phone off, wait a few seconds, and boot it again. When it comes back up, open Settings and confirm the mobile data switch is on: Cellular on iPhone, or Network & internet then Mobile network on Android. A restart clears a jammed radio faster than poking through menus.

  3. Reseat the SIM and Refresh Carrier Settings

Pop the tray out with a paperclip and push the card back in until it clicks. On iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About, and leave that screen open for a minute so a carrier settings update can appear. If you use an eSIM, check the line is still listed under Cellular instead.

  4. Reset Network Settings or Contact Support

This erases saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings, so note them first: on iPhone go to Settings, then General, then Transfer or Reset iPhone, then Reset, then Reset Network Settings. Your account does not change, and the phone rebuilds every saved connection from scratch. If calls and texts still fail, reach Fido through its help centre at https://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/GCT_ContactUs so an agent can check the line from their end.

While Fido is down: what to use instead

  • Wi-Fi calling If your phone shows No Service but you have a Wi-Fi network, Wi-Fi calling can carry calls and texts on that connection when your phone and Fido support it.
  • WhatsApp or Signal WhatsApp or Signal lets you message and call over Wi-Fi when your phone has no bars and you can join a wireless network.
  • Landline A landline lets you make urgent calls when your mobile line will not connect.
  • Help centre contact page The help centre contact page lists ways you can reach support for account or device problems when the app or phone line is unavailable.

Problems at the same time as Fido

Since 28 October, all 4 of Fido's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Fido goes down

Fido is a Canadian mobile carrier, and people rely on it for calls, texts, mobile data, and voicemail on phones and tablets. An outage cuts that connection, so calls fail and messages stall.

Mobile data often fails first: pages stop loading and apps spin on a blank screen even when the phone shows signal bars. Calls drop or fail to connect, and texts queue or arrive late. Voicemail can stop updating, and outbound calls may fail while incoming calls still ring. Problems are often regional or partial, so one area or one service can go bad while the rest of the account works.

Questions

Fido FAQ

Is Fido down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Fido are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, and restart your phone. Try a different app. Ask someone nearby on the same network whether their connection works.

Why does my phone show SOS only on Fido?

SOS only usually means your phone cannot reach the Fido network for normal calls, though emergency calls may still work. Toggle airplane mode, and restart the phone. Check that the SIM sits firmly in its tray, or confirm the eSIM line is active in settings. A nearby phone with signal points to your device or SIM.

Why can't I send picture messages on Fido?

Picture messages can fail when mobile data is off or when the message thread is stuck. Turn mobile data off and back on, and restart the phone. If one thread keeps failing, start a new message to that contact and send a smaller photo.

Why does the Fido My Account app sign me out?

The app can sign you out after an update or a password change, so try signing in again before you treat it as an outage. Update the app from your phone's app store, and check whether the same login works in a browser. If both fail, reset your password or use the Fido help centre.

Why did my Fido bill payment fail?

A card can fail when the expiry date changed, the billing address does not match, the bank put a hold on the charge, or the card has no room left. Check those details, then try the payment once more; retrying a failed card in a loop can add another hold. If the payment still fails, contact your bank first, then use the Fido help centre.

How we track Fido

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Fido, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Fido, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Fido doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
