Is it down? Check any website

Type a website address and our server in Frankfurt, Germany opens it right now. You see whether it answers, the HTTP status and how long it took, so you know if a site is down for everyone or just for you.

We check the home page over https unless you type http://. The check takes up to 10 seconds.

How it works

What our check does

Our server in Frankfurt, Germany looks up the website's address, connects to it and asks for its home page the way a browser would, without cookies. It follows up to 3 redirects and waits up to 10 seconds.

We count a site as up when it answers with a page or a redirect we can follow, as up with an error when it answers with a code from 400 to 499 or a redirect we don't follow, and as down when it answers with a code from 500 to 599 or doesn't answer at all.

This is one check from one place. A site can work in Frankfurt and fail somewhere else, or the other way round. For the services we follow, user problem reports show what people are seeing right now.

Website check questions

Is it down for everyone or just me?

If our check gets an answer but the site won't load for you, the problem is most likely on your side: your connection, your DNS, the browser, or a block on your network. If our check fails too, the site is also unreachable from our server in Frankfurt, so it isn't just you.

What does the HTTP status mean?

It is the number the website sent back. 200 means the page loaded. 301 and 302 send you to another address. 403 means the site refused our check, often because of bot protection, so it is online. 404 means the page doesn't exist. 500 to 599 mean the website's own server failed, which usually means it is down for everyone.

Why does a site work for me but fail here?

We check from one server in Frankfurt, Germany. A site can block some countries, data centres or automated checks, and a network problem can hit one region only. If it loads for you, it is working for you.

Which addresses can be checked?

Public websites on http or https, on the usual ports 80 and 443. We check the home page of the address you type and follow up to 3 redirects. Addresses in private networks, such as your router or a company intranet, can't be reached from our server and are refused.

Do you keep the addresses I check?

We keep the address and a shortened hash of your IP address for about a minute, to reuse a fresh result and to allow each visitor 10 checks a minute. Entries older than a minute are removed the next time anyone runs a check. The address is also part of the page address, so it can appear in our hosting provider's logs for longer. Privacy policy.
