How to fix Call of Duty not working

Call of Duty is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

  1. Check the official status page

    Open the official status page to see if the service reports an outage; if it does, wait and try again later, but if it does not, the problem is on your end. Then check your own setup.

  2. Restart Call of Duty and your device

    Close Call of Duty instead of leaving it suspended, then restart your console or PC so the network stack clears. On Xbox, press the Xbox button, highlight the game, press Menu, and choose Quit; on PlayStation, highlight the game and choose Close Application. Launch the game again and sign in.

  3. Use a wired connection

    Connect your console or PC to the router with an Ethernet cable, because Wi-Fi drops and high ping often cause matchmaking and party chat to fail. If you cannot use a cable, restart your router and modem, then reconnect to the network. After the network is back, open the game and try a multiplayer match.

  4. Set NAT to Open and forward ports

    Run the network test in your console settings: on Xbox, go to Settings > General > Network settings > Test network connection; on PlayStation, go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection. If your NAT type is Strict or Moderate, turn on UPnP in your router settings or forward the game's ports. On PC, allow the game through Windows Security > Firewall & network protection > Allow an app through firewall.

What happens when Call of Duty goes down

Call of Duty is a first-person shooter series with annual releases and a free-to-play battle royale, and you play it on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and phones. An outage cuts off matchmaking, party invites, progression, and store purchases for everyone from casual Warzone players to clans running ranked matches.

Online play breaks first: you stall on 'Connecting to online services', and matchmaking hangs until it times out. Party invites and friend requests stop arriving, so you cannot group up even when a solo mode still launches. Progress can stop saving after a match, and the store or battle pass screen may fail to load while the rest of the app responds. Outages can be partial or regional, so Warzone alone can fail while multiplayer works, or one platform can fail while another works fine; Activision's official status page is the place to check for broad service notes.

Is Call of Duty down right now?

Why does Call of Duty say 'Unable to connect to online services' on my console or PC?
That message usually means the game cannot reach Activision's servers or your console cannot reach the internet. Test your connection in the device settings. Then try a wired link or mobile hotspot to see if the error follows your network, and if the game still fails after a restart, the issue may sit with the service.

Why can't I join my friends in Warzone or multiplayer?
A closed party, a different game version, a strict NAT type, or a crossplay setting can block invites. Ask your friend to open the party. Then check that both of you run the same update and platform crossplay setting, and if the invite still fails, restart the game and router before you blame the servers.

Why did my COD Points or Battle Pass purchase not appear?
Store purchases can lag while the platform processes the payment. Wait a few minutes and reload the game. Check your platform order history for a failed or pending charge, because a refund or declined card stops the item from appearing, and if the charge completed but the item never arrives, contact Activision support with your order number.

Why does Call of Duty keep signing me out or losing my account link on console or PC?
A sign-out loop often comes from a stale login token. Sign out of the game and the platform store, then sign back in. Check that your Activision account links to the right platform account, because a second linked profile can make the link point at the wrong account, and if it keeps happening, reset your password and remove unused linked accounts from the Activision account page.
