How to fix USPS not working
When USPS itself is having trouble, these steps won't bring it back, but they will rule out anything on your side:
Your browser tries to reach usps.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Reload USPS tracking
Press Ctrl+F5 on Windows or Command+Shift+R on a Mac to reload the tracking page without cached files. If the tab keeps spinning, open the same tracking number in a private window and retry there.
Restart the USPS app
Turn off Wi-Fi and load tracking over cellular, or move from cellular to Wi-Fi if the page hangs on mobile data. Force-close the app from the recent apps screen, reopen it, and try the same tracking number again.
Clear USPS site data
In Chrome, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Delete browsing data, pick Cookies and other site data plus Cached images and files, and set the time range to All time. In Safari, use Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data. Sign back in and retry the tracking or Click-N-Ship action that failed.
Try a different USPS path
Open the same tracking number in the USPS app if the website fails, or use the website if the app crashes. For label problems, try Click-N-Ship in a second browser with extensions disabled. If both paths stop at the same step, copy the exact error text and the action you took, then retry after a short wait.
While USPS is down: what to use instead
- FedEx For a parcel that has to move soon, drop it at a FedEx counter or schedule a pickup.
- UPS For ground shipments you can track on the carrier's site, schedule a UPS pickup or take the box to a UPS Store.
- DHL For an international parcel, use a DHL service point when the destination is outside the country.
- Post Office counter Walk into a Post Office counter to mail a letter or buy postage when the app or website will not load.
Problems at the same time as USPS
Since 27 October, all 3 of USPS's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.
When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

What happens when USPS goes down
USPS is the national postal service, and small shippers and households rely on it for packages and everyday mail. An outage cuts off tracking and label printing; account access can fail too.
Tracking lookups tend to fail first; the page spins, returns a generic unavailable message, drops package history, or hangs on refresh. Sign-in can break next, so Informed Delivery shows an empty dashboard and Click-N-Ship stalls when you buy postage or print a label. The app usually follows the website. Trouble can be regional or limited to one feature, and a local mail delay can look like an outage while the rest of the service still works.

How we track USPS
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for USPS, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for USPS, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. USPS doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
