Troubleshooting

How to fix ANZ Bank not working

ANZ Bank is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach anz.com.au over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Force close the ANZ app

On iPhone, double-click Home or swipe up and hold, then swipe the ANZ app card up; on Android, open Recents and swipe the card away. Open the app again and check whether the login screen or balance loads. A full close clears a stuck screen without touching your account.

  2. Switch the ANZ app to mobile data

Turn off Wi-Fi in Control Center or Quick Settings, then open the app on mobile data; if the login screen loads, the fault is that Wi-Fi network. Forget that network in Settings > Wi-Fi and join it again, then retry a balance check.

  3. Clear the ANZ app cache on Android

Open Settings > Apps > ANZ > Storage & cache and tap Clear cache, then reopen the app. A stale cache can leave the app stuck on the login screen even when the service is up.

  4. Reinstall the ANZ app

On iPhone, touch and hold the app icon, tap Remove App, then Delete App; on Android, touch and hold the icon and tap Uninstall. Install it again from the App Store or Google Play and sign in. Try a transfer or balance check; if the same failure comes back after the clean install, contact ANZ through the help centre and include the exact message on screen.

While ANZ Bank is down: what to use instead

  • Internet banking in a browser If the app will not get past the login screen, open the website in a browser on your phone or laptop, since the two do not always fail at the same time.
  • Your card at a shop till or ATM Card payments and cash withdrawals run through the card network rather than the app, so a physical card can still get you paid up or get cash out while the app is stuck.
  • Phone banking Call the phone banking line when you need a balance or a transfer and the app keeps timing out; the automated menu covers most everyday jobs without waiting for a person.
  • A transfer from another bank When money has to reach someone today, send it from an account you hold elsewhere using PayID or a standard bank transfer, then move funds across once the app is back.
Same time

Problems at the same time as ANZ Bank

Since 28 October, ANZ Bank's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when ANZ Bank goes down

ANZ Bank is an Australian bank with mobile and online banking used by personal customers and businesses for payments, transfers, account checks, and card controls. An outage interrupts those routines when a transfer stalls or the app will not load your balance.

The status at the top of each page counts problem reports for the service against their usual level in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, and it does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor the bank itself; it never checks from multiple locations. App login tends to fail first. The balance screen fails to load when you check it, and transfers stall before confirmation. Card payments decline at the terminal, and problems can be partial: one app platform or one payment type fails while other services work, and customers in the same region can hit the same trouble.

Questions

ANZ Bank FAQ

Is ANZ Bank down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. This page does not test the service. To see if the problem is only on your side, try a different network and check whether another site loads. Then open internet banking in a browser as well as the app.

Why does the ANZ app sign me out or show a blank screen?

A sign-out can follow a timeout or an app update, while a blank screen often points to a bad connection or an old app version. Restart your phone and check for an app update. If the app still fails while internet banking works in a browser, the problem is likely on your phone.

Why did my ANZ transfer or BPAY payment fail?

A transfer or BPAY payment can fail when the account has a hold or the payee details are wrong. Check the payee details first. Then look for any limits or messages in internet banking. If money leaves your account but the payee does not see it, save the receipt and contact ANZ.

Why is my ANZ card declined when I have money in the account?

Open the ANZ app. Check the card controls and look for an alert on the account. A card can decline because of a card setting in the app or a temporary hold on the account. If the decline repeats, use another card or payment method while you sort it out with the bank.

Can I use the ANZ app on a new phone or while overseas?

You can install the app on a new phone, but you may need to set it up again and pass a security check. Overseas use depends on your connection; try Wi-Fi and mobile data if one fails. If the app keeps failing in one country while internet banking works in a browser, treat it as a local device or network issue first.

How we track ANZ Bank

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for ANZ Bank, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for ANZ Bank, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. ANZ Bank doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
