Troubleshooting

How to fix Cogeco not working

Cogeco is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach cogeco.ca over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check Cogeco's report level

Look at the status at the top of this page. A report level above the usual mark points to a problem outside your home; a normal level points to your line or device.

  2. Restart the modem and router

Unplug the modem power lead, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, then do the same for the router if it is separate. Let the lights settle for two minutes before you test a website.

  3. Test an Ethernet connection

Connect a laptop to the router or modem with an Ethernet cable and open a website. If the wired link works but Wi-Fi drops, open your device Wi-Fi settings and reconnect to the correct 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz name. That rules out Wi-Fi.

  4. Contact Cogeco with modem details

Write down the modem light colours and any error message you see on screen. Contact support through the help centre and keep the note handy. Ask support to test the line from their side, because a reboot or Wi-Fi change cannot clear a fault outside your home.

While Cogeco is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot Your phone can carry the laptop through an hour of email and a short call, and it will burn cellular data doing it.
  • Official outage page Load it over cellular data before you crawl behind the TV stand, since it shows whether reports are running above the usual level.
  • Help centre The reset and reconnect steps for your service live here, and you can open a support request from the same page if they change nothing.
  • Library or cafe Wi-Fi Public Wi-Fi covers the upload or the call that cannot wait until tomorrow.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Cogeco

Since 28 October, all 2 of Cogeco's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Cogeco goes down

Cogeco is a Canadian internet and TV provider. Households and small businesses rely on it for web access and streaming, so an outage cuts those connections at once.

When the line drops, you lose web browsing and app loading first; video streaming stalls, and home phone calls can drop or fail to connect. Your router can stay lit while pages time out. The failure can be regional, such as a neighborhood node or a street, and many reports are partial: one service or one area fails while another stays up. The status at the top shows whether problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; it does not test the network itself.

Questions

Cogeco FAQ

Is Cogeco down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for Cogeco are above their usual level; it does not test your line or your account. If you want a confirmed outage, check Cogeco's official status page. To see whether the trouble is only on your side, try a second device on the same Wi-Fi and then switch that device to mobile data; if both fail the same way, look at your modem or router.

Why does my Cogeco internet drop on Wi-Fi but work with an Ethernet cable?

A wired connection that stays up points to the Wi-Fi side: distance, walls, interference, or a router that is failing under load. Test a second device close to the router and restart the modem and router before you blame the line. If the wired link also drops, the trouble is upstream or in your modem, so check the official status page.

Why can't I sign in to My Account or Cogeco email?

Start with caps lock and the password reset link; if the same sign-in error follows you to a phone on mobile data, the account or service is the likely cause. Clear the browser cache only after that test.

How do I pay my Cogeco bill when My Account will not load?

Do not keep retrying the same tab. Try a different browser or a phone on mobile data first; a local connection problem can make My Account look broken. If the page still fails, use the help centre to find the billing contact option and pay through the method it lists.

Why does one Cogeco TV box show a signal problem while the others work?

A single failing box usually means the coax cable or that box itself; the rest of the home is still getting a signal. Check the cable at the wall and restart the box, then compare the same channel on a working TV. If only that box is affected, book service for the box or the outlet instead of treating it as a whole-home outage.

How we track Cogeco

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Cogeco, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Cogeco, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. This is separate from Cogeco's official status page: user reports tend to show a problem early, while the official page confirms the cause. If the two disagree, check both.
