How to fix SRF not working

SRF is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach srf.ch over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Reload the Play live stream

    Close the player tab. Press Ctrl + Shift + R on Windows or Cmd + Shift + R on Mac when you see the live picture freeze because stale cache often holds the old schedule entry.

  2. Turn off VPN for Swiss playback

    You see a block notice abroad. Disable your VPN and reload the page when you want domestic shows and live channels because rights deals limit much of the video catalogue to Swiss IP addresses.

  3. Clear the Play app cache

    Open Settings > Apps and tap Storage > Clear Cache. You fix stutter and login loops on Android when you clear old files because the app rebuilds its temp data on next launch.

  4. Reinstall the app for TV playback

    Delete the app now. Uninstall it from Settings > General > iPhone Storage or Settings > Apps on Android, then get a fresh copy from the App Store or Google Play when you see episodes refuse to load after an update.

While SRF is down: what to use instead

  • Website in a browser If the Play SRF app hangs on loading or won't start a video, try the website on your phone or computer, because a fault in the app doesn't always take the site down with it.
  • DAB+ radio Radio SRF 1 and SRF 3 still play on any DAB+ set.
  • Your TV provider Live channels such as SRF 1 and SRF zwei come through Swiss cable and IPTV boxes, which don't depend on the streaming app, so switching on the TV is often the quickest way to catch a live broadcast.
  • Play Suisse For series and films you can use Play Suisse, the SRG platform with titles from SRF and its sister broadcasters, although it has no live news.

Why does the SRF app keep crashing on my phone?
