How to fix Apex Legends not working

Apex Legends is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Restart Apex and your launcher
Close Apex Legends completely. Quit Steam or the EA app, then open it and launch the game again. On console, quit the game from the dashboard and start it again.
Check EA's server status
Open the official EA server status page and look for Apex Legends under the list of games. If the service shows an outage, the problem is on EA's side and you can only wait; if it looks normal, move to local fixes.
Verify or repair game files
On Steam, open your Library and right-click Apex Legends to reach Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files. In the EA app, open Library and choose Repair from the three-dot menu on the game tile. A corrupted file often causes a crash or black screen at launch.
Update your GPU driver

What happens when Apex Legends goes down

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale shooter from Respawn and EA, and players on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch rely on it for squad matches and ranked climbs. An outage interrupts login, matchmaking, parties, and in-match progress.

Login and authentication usually fail first, so you get stuck on the main menu or watch the game cycle through reconnect attempts before it drops you back. Matchmaking stalls next. Solo queues and party invites hang; you can load into a lobby only to get kicked before the drop; in-match hit registration and voice chat can lag; ranked matches may not record progress if the session ends early. Problems are often regional or partial.

Is Apex Legends down right now?

EA's official status page at help.ea.com/en/server-status/ lists confirmed outages, so check it alongside the report level. If reports look ordinary and you still cannot play, the trouble is probably on your side, so restart your router and test another online game on the same device.

Why do I get Code:net or Code:leaf when a match is loading?

Those errors mean your device lost its link to EA's servers while the lobby was still loading. One of them every few nights is normal noise. When it fires on every match while your squad loads in without trouble, your own connection is the likelier cause, so try a wired link or a different router before you blame the servers.

Why can't my friends on other platforms join my lobby?

Cross-play in the game depends on each player's platform account being linked to an EA account, so an unlinked or recently re-linked account will break invites long before a server outage does. Have everyone check their EA account connections first. If invites still vanish, try joining through the lobby instead of the console friends list, and see whether the same pair can party up in another cross-play title.

I bought Apex Coins and the balance never updated. Could an outage cause that?

Store purchases go through EA's payment side, which is separate from the matchmaking servers, so a rough night in game does not always mean your coins were lost. Most delayed balances settle without you doing anything. If yours still shows nothing after that, take your order confirmation to the EA help centre at help.ea.com; this page only counts player reports and has no view of your account.

My ping spikes and I rubber-band in every match. Is that the servers?

Rubber-banding in every match usually points at the route between you and the data center rather than the game itself. Switch data centers from the main menu and play a single round. If the spikes follow you into other online games on the same machine, your ISP or your home router is a better suspect than the servers.
