How to fix Facebook not working

Facebook is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach facebook.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Test Facebook on mobile data

    Turn off Wi-Fi and open the app again. If it loads on mobile data but not on Wi-Fi, restart the router; on iPhone, you can also open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the network, then Forget This Network.

  2. Force stop Facebook and reopen it

    Force stop the app from Android settings: Settings > Apps > See all apps > Facebook > Force stop. On iPhone, double-click the Home button or swipe up from the bottom and pause, then swipe the app card up before you tap the icon again. Reopen the app.

  3. Update the Facebook app

    Open the App Store and install any pending update from your profile icon. On Google Play, tap your profile icon and go to Manage apps & device > Updates available. Restart the app after it updates.

  4. Clear Facebook app data or use a browser

    On Android, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Facebook > Storage & cache > Clear cache. If that fails, Clear storage signs you out and resets the app. On iPhone, delete the app and install it again from the App Store, or open the service in Safari or Chrome to see if the problem follows your account or stays on the device.

What happens when Facebook goes down

Facebook is a social network for posts, photos, videos, and messages. An outage blocks your News Feed, chats, group posts, and login, and families and businesses rely on it for messages and updates.

During an outage, the News Feed often refuses to refresh and shows old posts, while Messenger messages sit on sending and comments or reactions do not go through. Login can loop you back to the sign-in screen, and photo or video uploads stall before they finish. Problems usually start with loading and refreshing, then hit messaging and uploads; they can be regional or limited to one app while the desktop site still works. You might get a blank screen or a generic error even when your connection is fine.

Is Facebook down right now?

Why do my Facebook Reels or Stories keep failing to upload?
A failed Reel or Story upload often comes from a weak connection, a file format the app cannot process, low storage space, or a permission problem.
