How to fix Hulu not working

Hulu is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach hulu.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

Force close the Hulu app
Swipe up from the bottom edge on iPhone and pause, then swipe the Hulu card away; on Android, open Recents and swipe the app card away. Reopen the app.
Try the Hulu app on cellular data
On iPhone, turn off Wi-Fi in Control Center; on Android, open Settings > Network & internet > Internet and turn off Wi-Fi. Open the app and start a title over mobile data. If it plays, restart your router and reconnect the original Wi-Fi network.
Update the Hulu app
Open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll to Available Updates and tap Update next to Hulu. On Android, open Google Play, tap your profile icon, choose Manage apps & device, then tap Updates available and tap Update next to the app. Reopen it.
Reinstall the Hulu app
On iPhone, touch and hold the app icon, tap Remove App, then tap Delete App, and reinstall from the App Store. On Android, open Settings > Apps > Hulu > Storage & cache, tap Clear cache; if the app still fails, tap Clear storage and sign in again. That resets local app data.

What happens when Hulu goes down

Hulu is a streaming service with on demand shows, films, and a live TV tier, and it runs on phones, tablets, smart TVs, and browsers. When it fails, you lose the episode you queued up mid scene, and live channels drop during a game or a news hour.

Playback breaks first: the spinner hangs, the stream drops to a low resolution, or an error message tells you nothing when you press play. Live TV fails harder. A channel can refuse to load while an older episode still starts fine, and signing in or loading profiles may stall until you try a second device and hit the same wall. Most outages are partial and regional, so one platform or a bundle of channels goes dark while the rest keeps streaming.

Is Hulu down right now?

Why does Hulu say there is a problem playing this video?

That message usually points to a playback handshake that failed, so close the app, try another title, check your connection, and sign out then back in. If the same title fails on every device, the issue is likely the stream or your account; if it fails on one device only, update or reinstall the app on that device.

What causes the Hulu app to log me out or say my session has expired?

The app can drop a session after a password change or when it cannot store login data on the device. A long idle period can also end the session. Sign in again, check the password on the website, clear the app data, and reinstall the app if the logout keeps happening on one device.

Why does Hulu say my location is not supported?

The service is limited to the United States, so a connection outside the country or a VPN can trigger a location block. Turn off any VPN or proxy and check the device location setting; if you are traveling outside the service area, the app may stay unavailable until you use a supported connection.

What should I do if Hulu declines my payment or asks me to update my payment method?

The card may be expired, the bank may have declined the charge, the billing ZIP may not match, or the payment method may have been removed. Update the payment method in the account page, then check with the bank if the charge still fails; the service can pause billing until the method goes through.
