How to fix Character.AI not working

Character.AI is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach character.ai over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Reload Character.AI

    If a reply hangs or the send button does nothing, reload the browser tab or force quit the app. On a phone, swipe the app away from the recent apps list, then launch it again. This clears a stuck session without deleting your chats.

  2. Check your network for Character.AI

What happens when Character.AI goes down

Character.AI is a chat app for AI characters. You can create your own characters and talk by voice on mobile or the web; you use it for roleplay, companionship, writing, or passing time, and an outage cuts off replies and character creation.

Chats often break first: your message sends but the reply never arrives, or the page sits on a loading spinner until you refresh. Character creation can fail before the new character appears in your list, and voice calls may drop or refuse to connect while text chat still works for some people. Sign-in and account pages sometimes stall too, which locks you out of every character at once. The problem is often partial and regional, so you may see a working app while someone in another city gets errors.
