Interac outages and problems
In the past 24 hours, 120 user reports came in for Interac. Counting only the 15-minute windows with a spike big enough to count as an outage, that comes to 100.00% uptime for the day.
The busiest 15-minute window had 8 reports, about 12 hours ago. That stays below our outage threshold, so it doesn't count as downtime.

How to fix Interac not working
Interac is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach interac.ca over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Retry the e-Transfer on data
Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data and retry the transfer in your bank app. If the screen still stalls, turn Airplane Mode on and off, then reload the page.
Match the e-Transfer contact
Confirm the recipient email address or mobile number you entered; one wrong character stops the notification. Delete the saved recipient in your banking app and add the contact again with the exact details.
Clear the pending e-Transfer
Log in to your bank's app or online banking and open the e-Transfer section to look for a pending transfer you need to cancel before sending another. Check that the sending account has available funds and that the amount is within the limit shown for that account.
Update the bank app
Install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play, sign out of the banking app, force close it, and sign back in before you retry. If the browser page fails, clear the site data for your bank's domain and then try the transfer in a private window. When the app still fails and the recipient details are correct, use the Interac help centre form.
While Interac is down: what to use instead
- Cash Keep cash on hand for a purchase or a person-to-person payment when a debit tap or an e-Transfer will not go through.
- Credit card A credit card can pay for the same purchase if the store's debit terminal cannot reach the network.
- Online banking website If your banking app is the part that fails, sign in through your bank's website to send or accept an e-Transfer.
- PayPal Send money through PayPal to someone who also has an account when an e-Transfer is unavailable, though both of you need access to it.
Problems at the same time as Interac
Since 28 October, Interac's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.
When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

What happens when Interac goes down
Interac runs the e-Transfer service and the debit network most Canadian banks plug into, so people use it to send money by email or text and to pay by tap or chip. When it falters, a transfer can stall after the money leaves one account, and a card payment can fail at the till.
E-Transfer problems usually surface first: the banking app shows the transfer as pending, the recipient gets no notification, the deposit link times out, or a deposit stays stuck after you answer the security question. Debit payments fail at tap or chip, and the terminal shows a decline even when the account has funds. Partial failures are common; one bank's e-Transfer flow can break while another works, and a region can see failed debit payments while the rest of the country is fine. A full national failure is rare.

How we track Interac
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Interac, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Interac, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Interac doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
