Troubleshooting

How to fix Frontier not working

Frontier is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach frontier.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Force-stop the Frontier app

On Android, open Settings > Apps > Frontier > Force stop; on iPhone, open the app switcher and swipe the Frontier card up. Reopen it and retry.

  2. Open the Frontier site privately

In Chrome or Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+N on Windows or Command+Shift+N on a Mac to open a private window; Safari uses Shift+Command+N. Load the same page and sign in again, because a stale cookie can block sign-in.

  3. Set the clock for Frontier sign-in

On iPhone, open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically; on Android, open Settings > System > Date & time and turn on Set automatically. Wrong device time can break sign-in and payment screens even when the network is fine.

  4. Clear the Frontier app data

On Android, open Settings > Apps > Frontier > Storage & cache and tap Clear storage; this removes saved logins, so have your account details ready. On iPhone, delete the app and reinstall it from the App Store, then sign in once and retry the failed action.

While Frontier is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot Use your phone's hotspot when a laptop or tablet needs a connection and your phone supports it.
  • Cellular data Switch to mobile data on your phone for email and messages while the home connection is out.
  • Public Wi-Fi A library or workplace network can get you online for urgent tasks if you can reach one and trust the network.
  • Frontier phone support Call the support line on your bill if you need to report an outage or ask for account help and the app or website will not load.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Frontier

Since 27 October, Frontier's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Frontier goes down

Frontier is a US broadband and home phone provider that households and small businesses depend on for daily connectivity. When the service drops, you lose web access and video calls; streaming and smart-home devices stall too.

You often see live video and voice calls fail first: the call freezes and audio cuts out, forcing a reconnect. Web pages stop loading and downloads stall; streaming drops to a buffer wheel, while smart-home devices on the same connection go offline. The trouble can be regional or partial. The report count at the top, built from 15-minute windows over the last day, can show a cluster, but the site does not ping or probe the network and never checks from multiple locations, so it cannot confirm a cause.

Questions

Frontier FAQ

Is Frontier down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Frontier are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping or probe the service; the badge reflects reports only and says nothing about your own equipment. To check your side, restart your router and ONT, then try a wired connection. If a phone on mobile data loads the same sites and your home devices do not, the trouble is at your end.

Why does my Frontier internet light turn red or orange on the router?

A red or orange internet light can mean the router has no link to the network or the ONT, so check the power and fiber cable at the ONT first. Unplug both boxes for a minute, then plug the ONT back in before the router. If the light stays red after that, call support and say the ONT will not come online; a bad fiber line or a failed ONT is not something you can fix in the app.

Can I sign in to the MyFrontier app if my internet is down?

Yes, the app uses your mobile data as long as the phone has a signal, so you can check billing and account messages without your home connection. Sign-in can still fail if the app is stale or your password was changed; update the app, then reset the password from the account page on a phone with cellular data. A successful sign-in does not prove your home connection is working because the app reaches the account systems, not your router.

Why does my Frontier bill show a late fee after I set up autopay?

Autopay can post after the due date if you set it up close to the bill date, and a failed card or bank draft leaves the balance unpaid. Check the payment history in your account for a declined attempt, then pay the past due amount by another method. A late fee on autopay often means the draft did not clear, not that the bill was ignored.

Why does my Frontier email fail to load on my phone but work in a browser?

A mail app can fail because the password saved on the phone is old or the app uses the wrong server settings. A mailbox locked after too many sign-in tries can also block the app. Remove the account from the phone and add it again with the current password and the correct incoming and outgoing server details. If the browser works and the phone app does not, the problem is on the phone side, not the network.

How we track Frontier

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Frontier, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Frontier, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Frontier doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
