Troubleshooting

How to fix Verizon not working

Verizon is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach verizon.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Toggle Airplane Mode on your Verizon line

On iPhone, open Settings and turn Airplane Mode on, then off after a few seconds. On Android, open Quick Settings and tap the Airplane Mode tile twice. This forces the phone to reconnect to the Verizon network without a full restart.

  2. Restart your Verizon phone and reseat the SIM

Power the phone off, then on again, because a fresh connection can clear a stuck data session. If the phone uses a physical SIM, power off, remove the tray, check the card, and put it back before you power on; skip that step for eSIM.

  3. Reset network settings on your Verizon phone

On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. On Android, use Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth, or on Samsung phones use Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings. This erases saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings, so reconnect them afterward.

  4. Check your Verizon line status and call support

Sign in to the My Verizon app, open the Account tab, and look for a suspended line or an account alert; a block on the line can stop calls or mobile data even when the network is fine. If the line is clear, dial *611 from a working Verizon phone to reach support, or use the app's contact options and describe the symptom.

While Verizon is down: what to use instead

  • Wi-Fi calling Turn it on when the cellular signal drops but a working Wi-Fi network is available; calls and texts then go over that connection.
  • Verizon website The account site handles bill payments, plan changes and device help when the app will not load.
  • Customer service line Call the main support line if chat stalls or the app keeps signing you out.
  • Retail store Visit a company store for SIM swaps, account checks or device help when online tools and the phone line are not getting you anywhere.

Same time

Problems at the same time as Verizon

Since 27 October, all 12 of Verizon's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Verizon goes down

Verizon is a US telecom carrier with mobile and home internet service. People rely on it for calls, texts, mobile data and Fios connections, so an outage interrupts work calls, streaming, smart-home devices and routine account access.

Mobile data often stalls first even when the phone shows signal, and calls may fail or drop while texts arrive late. Fios home internet can cut out for a neighborhood, which stops TV streaming, Wi-Fi calling, smart-home devices and laptop connections. That trouble is often regional or partial. This site only compares user problem reports with their usual level in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; it does not ping or monitor the service itself.

Questions

Verizon FAQ

Is Verizon down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. This site does not ping or probe the service, so the status reflects report volume alone. To see whether the trouble is only on your side, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, try a second device, restart your router or modem, and open the same app in a web browser.

Why does My Verizon app show a connection error when my phone has full signal?

The app can fail while your phone has full signal because it needs to reach account servers, and a cached login or a bad app update can block that request. Force close the app and clear its cache before you sign in again on Wi-Fi. If the same account screen fails in a web browser too, treat it as an account service problem and test another phone.

Why is my Fios internet down but the TV still works?

Your TV service can keep showing channels while internet drops because the two services use different parts of the Fios setup, and the router or its connection can fail on its own. Reboot the router, then test a laptop by Ethernet to rule out Wi-Fi. If the router never comes back, focus on the line or the router; the TV signal is working.

Why did my bill payment fail in the My Verizon app?

Check the saved card or bank account first; app trouble is less likely. Check the expiration date and billing address on the payment method, then try the website with the same card. If the bank declined it, call the number on your card and ask why.

Why does my Verizon mobile data stop working in one area while calls and texts still go through?

Calls and texts can work when mobile data does not because they use different parts of the network and can fall back to older coverage. Toggle Airplane mode, then test a browser or map app with Mobile Data on. If the same spot kills data on two phones, report the location to Verizon support because the issue is likely local capacity or a tower problem.

How we track Verizon

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Verizon, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Verizon, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Verizon doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
