Troubleshooting

How to fix Spectrum not working

Spectrum is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach spectrum.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Restart the Spectrum gateway

Pull the power cord and wait 30 seconds before you plug it back in; give the lights a few minutes to settle. If you use a separate modem and router, power up the modem first and the router second.

  2. Test a wired connection

Connect a laptop to the router with an Ethernet cable and load a site; if that works, the fault sits in Wi-Fi or one device. Move closer and try the 5 GHz band if your router splits bands.

  3. Renew the PC's IP address

Open Command Prompt as administrator and run ipconfig /release, then ipconfig /renew. Restart the browser after that.

  4. Reset the affected device's network settings

On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings; this clears saved Wi-Fi passwords and VPN profiles. On Windows 11, use Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings > Network reset when only one PC fails and other devices work.

While Spectrum is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot Turn your phone into a hotspot when the home line drops, because cellular data keeps a laptop online for email, banking and anything else that needs a full browser.
  • Public Wi-Fi A library or cafe covers the jobs that can wait an hour, like filing a form or downloading a document.
  • Spectrum support line Call the number printed on your bill when the app and the website both stall, since the phone line runs over cellular and still connects.
  • Spectrum store Walk in if you need to swap a modem or router and waiting on shipping is not workable.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Spectrum

Since 27 October, Spectrum's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Spectrum goes down

Spectrum is a US cable internet and TV provider, and households and small businesses rely on it for work and streaming. An outage interrupts the connection that video calls, online classes, streaming and smart-home devices need.

Your Wi-Fi may stay connected while pages fail to load, and the cable box can freeze or show a channel unavailable message. Streaming stalls first because it needs a steady feed; email and basic web pages may limp along on a weak connection. Partial outages are common. Check the report level at the top of this page, which counts user reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, because a problem often hits one neighborhood or one service rather than the whole footprint.

Questions

Spectrum FAQ

Is Spectrum down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for Spectrum are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. This site does not ping or probe the service. To tell whether the problem is only on your side, try a second device on the same WiFi and switch one device to cellular data; if the second device fails on WiFi but the cellular device works, check your router or modem before you blame the service.

Why does the Spectrum TV app say I am not on my home network?

Some channels in the Spectrum TV app are tied to your home WiFi, so playback can stop when you use cellular data or a neighbor's network. Connect to your home WiFi and try again. If the app still blocks it, update the app and sign in again.

Why does My Spectrum keep signing me out?

The My Spectrum app can sign you out after a password change or an app update. Sign in again and let the app save the session if your account settings allow it. If it keeps happening, reset your password from the sign-in screen and try once more; a password manager with an old saved password can cause a loop.

Why does my Spectrum bill show past due after I paid?

A payment can take time to post, and the My Spectrum app may show the old balance until it clears. Check your bank or card statement for the payment, then open the app and look at recent billing activity. If the statement shows the charge and the app still says past due, call billing with the confirmation number.

Why does my Spectrum cable box show a black screen on one channel?

A single black channel often points to a weak signal or a channel you do not subscribe to, while a box problem can black out every channel. Check another channel and another box in the home. If only one channel fails, restart the box with its power cord; if every channel is black, check the cables and the box display before you call support.

How we track Spectrum

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Spectrum, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Spectrum, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Spectrum doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
