How to fix Valorant not working

Valorant is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

  1. Restart the Riot Client and VALORANT

    Close the game, then exit the Riot Client from the Windows system tray. Reopen the client and launch VALORANT to clear a stuck sign-in or patch session; if the launcher still hangs, sign out and back in from the client profile menu.

  2. Test Network Buffering in VALORANT

    Open Settings > General and turn Network Buffering on. Play a short match or range session; if the lag or disconnect stops, leave it on, and if not, turn it back off so you avoid extra delay.

  3. Flush DNS and restart the client

    Open Command Prompt and run `ipconfig /flushdns`, then close and reopen the Riot Client. That clears stale DNS entries which can block the login or patch servers; it does not touch your network hardware.

  4. Reset Winsock and restart Windows

    Run Command Prompt as administrator, type `netsh winsock reset`, and press Enter. Restart the PC afterward, then launch the Riot Client and try VALORANT again; this repairs a damaged Windows network stack when the game still fails to connect.

What happens when Valorant goes down

Valorant is Riot Games' free-to-play tactical shooter on PC and console, built around 5v5 rounds with agents and maps in ranked and unrated play, and it is played mostly in the US. An outage interrupts signing into the Riot Client, queuing for a match, joining a server, or finishing a ranked game, which hits players and streamers who need the service to work.

When the service has trouble, login or Riot Client authentication often fails first, so you cannot reach the lobby, and matchmaking can hang or drop you before agent select. If you get into a match, disconnects and a failure to reconnect can hit, while the in-game store or collection loads slowly or not at all, and the problem often splits by region: one group of players cannot connect while another group gets in and plays. That split is common. Is Valorant down right now?

Why does Valorant give me a VAN 9003 error on Windows 11?
That error usually means your PC is not meeting the TPM 2.0 or Secure Boot requirement that Valorant's Vanguard anti-cheat expects. Check your motherboard firmware settings and turn on TPM and Secure Boot, then restart the PC before opening the Riot Client. If you changed hardware recently, confirm the settings stayed on after the firmware update.

Why does Valorant say I am logged in elsewhere?
That message means another device or browser still has an active session for your Riot account. Sign out of all devices from your Riot account security page, then sign back in on the device you want to use. If you do not recognize the session, change your password and turn on two-factor authentication.

Why did my Valorant Points purchase fail but my card was charged?
A failed purchase can still leave a pending hold with your bank or card issuer, and that hold often clears on its own after the payment settles. Do not buy the same pack again right away because a second charge can go through while the first is still pending. Check your Riot transaction history, then contact Riot support with the order details if the points do not arrive.

Why does Valorant show high ping only on the North America server?
Your route to a single data center can be the problem while other servers stay fine. Pick the closest server in the client and test a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi before you queue again. If the same server keeps lagging while other games are smooth, check the official status page for that region and report the route to Riot support. Restart the Riot Client once to clear a stale server connection.
