How to fix CIBC not working
CIBC is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:
Your browser tries to reach cibc.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.
Force quit the CIBC app
If the splash screen stalls or sign-in loops, close it from the app switcher and open it again. Retry sign-in.
Switch between Wi-Fi and cellular
Turn off Wi-Fi in Control Center or Quick Settings and load the app over cellular; if that fails, turn Wi-Fi back on and disable cellular data. A VPN can block sign-in, so turn it off in your phone settings and retry.
Update the app and restart your phone
Open the App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android, find CIBC, and install any pending update. Restart your phone after the update finishes.
Try the website and CIBC help centre
Test the browser. Sign in to your account in Safari or Chrome to see whether the trouble is limited to the app, and if the browser fails too, open the help centre at https://www.cibc.com/ca/contact-cibc.html and use the contact options there.
While CIBC is down: what to use instead
- ATM Use an ATM with your debit card if you need cash and the app will not open.
- Debit or credit card A debit or credit card covers store payments and cash withdrawals while the app or website is unavailable.
- Telephone banking Telephone banking handles balance checks and bill payments when the app or website keeps failing.
- Branch A branch visit works for deposits and account questions if the app and website are both down.
Problems at the same time as CIBC
Since 28 October, all 5 of CIBC's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.
When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

What happens when CIBC goes down
CIBC is a Canadian bank with personal and business accounts, credit cards, loans, and investments, and many people rely on its online banking and mobile app to check balances, pay bills, move money, and deposit cheques. An outage interrupts sign-in, transfers, bill payments, and card or account checks at the moment you need them.
During an outage, the mobile app may crash on launch or show a blank screen, and online banking can reject your sign-in or loop back to the login page. Balances and recent transactions often fail to load first because those calls hit the account systems before anything else; bill payments and transfers, including Interac e-Transfers, may hang at confirmation or stay pending after you approve them. Partial failures are common. The report count at the top comes from user problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, so some customers and some features can show trouble while others work; the site does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor CIBC itself or check from multiple locations.

How we track CIBC
The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for CIBC, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for CIBC, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.
When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. CIBC doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
