How to fix Fortnite not working

Fortnite is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Check Fortnite server status
Open https://status.epicgames.com in a browser before you change anything on your device. If Epic reports a problem with Fortnite or its login services, wait for the fix instead of reinstalling. When the page shows normal operation, move to the next step.
Restart Fortnite and your launcher
Close Fortnite completely, then quit the Epic Games Launcher from the system tray or menu bar and open it again. On console, close the app from the dashboard and start it again. This clears a stuck sign-in state and forces a fresh connection to matchmaking.
Test your Fortnite connection
In Fortnite, open the Settings menu and turn on Net Stats under the Game tab to watch ping and packet loss. A wired Ethernet cable beats Wi-Fi for this. If the numbers still jump, restart your router and modem, then pause any Epic Games Launcher downloads because they compete for bandwidth.
Reinstall Fortnite
On PC, open the Epic Games Launcher, go to Library, click the three dots under Fortnite, and choose Uninstall, then install it again from the same tile. On console, delete the game from your storage settings and download it from the platform store. This replaces corrupt files that can stop the game from launching or joining a match.

While Fortnite is down: what to use instead

What happens when Fortnite goes down

Fortnite is a free-to-play battle royale and creative game from Epic Games. You and other players on PC and consoles rely on its servers for matches and parties, so an outage cuts off login, matchmaking, voice chat, and the item shop and leaves you unable to join friends even when your own connection is fine.

Login and matchmaking break first. You get stuck on a connecting screen or see an unable to connect message, and once you reach a lobby, parties and voice chat often fail, which leaves you unable to join friends or talk to them. The item shop and purchases can stall too, and a match may drop you back with a connection error. Problems are often partial: one platform or region can fail while another works, so your friends on a different console may play while you cannot.

How we track Fortnite
