  1. Check the official status page

    Open the official status page at status.claude.com before you change anything. If it lists an incident, wait for the all clear and try again.

  2. Reload without the cache

    On the web, press Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac to bypass the cache. On mobile, force quit the app and reopen it, then start a new chat.

  3. Sign out and back in

    Open the profile menu and choose Sign out, then log in again with the same account. This clears a stale session that can block your messages or file uploads.

  4. Try another network or browser

    Turn off your VPN or switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, then reload. If the app still fails, open the service in a different browser and sign in there; if that works, clear cookies and site data for the service in the first browser.

While Claude AI is down: what to use instead

  • Browser instead of the app If only the desktop or mobile app keeps failing to send messages or logging you out, try the web version in a browser, but check the official status page first because a full outage hits both.

Claude AI answers questions. You run it on web and mobile to draft and debug work, so when it stalls you lose chats and long replies midstream.

Long replies stall first. You hit send and the bar spins without an answer, while older chats still open because the failure hits generation before it hits login or history. File uploads and artifacts fail next, and you see retry prompts or blank panels. Outages often hit part of traffic, so you can fail while a friend on another network still gets replies.

Is Claude AI down right now?

Load a different site, switch networks, try another browser, and sign in on a second device; if the app fails everywhere, the fault is probably on your account or device.

Why does Claude say it is at capacity?
The capacity notice shows up when demand outruns the servers that handle requests, and it clusters around peak hours. Retry once. If the notice clears, nothing is broken on your end. When it lasts past an hour, check the official status page and open the app on a second device to see whether the block follows your account.

Why can't I log in to Claude with my Google account?
Google sign-in failures often trace to a stale session or a browser extension that blocks third-party cookies. Clear the site's cookies, disable extensions for one attempt, try the mobile app, and check the same login on another device. If the login loop continues, try signing in with the email and password you set, if you have one, because the account itself may be flagged. Contact support only after both paths fail.

Why did my Claude subscription payment get declined?
Your bank usually causes declines: an expired card, a foreign transaction block, a billing address mismatch, or a daily spending cap. Update the card in your account settings and retry. If the charge still fails, call your bank and ask whether they blocked the merchant, because the app cannot override that.

Why does Claude fail when I upload a file?
Upload errors usually mean the file is too large or password protected. Export a fresh copy, keep it under the limit shown in the picker, and retry from the web app instead of the phone. Scanned images without a text layer also stall, so run OCR first if the document is a picture. A quick test: upload a small plain text file. If that works, the document itself is the problem.
