Troubleshooting

How to fix AT&T not working

AT&T is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach att.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Toggle Airplane Mode for AT&T

Open Control Center on iPhone or the quick settings shade on Android and turn Airplane Mode on, wait a few seconds, then turn it off. That step is quick. If the phone still shows No Service or SOS, restart it before changing anything deeper.

  2. Check the AT&T Line

On iPhone, go to Settings > Cellular and confirm the AT&T line is on and set for cellular data. Android paths vary, but Settings > Network & internet > SIMs on Pixel lets you check the SIM; after that, move near a window and watch the signal bars.

  3. Reset AT&T Network Settings

This clears saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings; use it after you confirm the AT&T line is enabled. On iPhone, open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. On Samsung phones, open Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings.

  4. Open AT&T Help Centre

Sign in to the AT&T help centre at https://www.att.com/support/ and review your line status and any account prompts. If another device on the same account works, the handset or SIM is the likely problem; if none work, ask support to check the line and local service.

While AT&T is down: what to use instead

  • Wi-Fi calling Switch on Wi-Fi calling in your phone settings when you have working internet, because calls and texts can then use that connection instead of the mobile network.
  • WhatsApp Use WhatsApp over Wi-Fi to send messages or make calls when the mobile network will not carry them.
  • Landline or second phone Keep a landline or a phone on another carrier handy so you can reach people if the mobile service or app will not connect.
  • Help centre Open the help centre in a browser to reach support pages and account tools when the app will not load.

Same time

Problems at the same time as AT&T

Since 27 October, all 10 of AT&T's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when AT&T goes down

AT&T is a telecom provider whose wireless and home internet services carry calls and data for households and businesses, so an outage interrupts those connections. The status at the top counts user reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; this site does not ping or monitor the network itself.

A wireless outage usually hits voice and data first: your phone drops to SOS or No Service, and calls fail. Mobile data can stall with full bars. Home internet outages look different: the gateway loses its broadband light, and Wi-Fi stays up while pages time out. Problems are often regional or partial, so one neighborhood or one service type can fail while the rest works.

Questions

AT&T FAQ

Is AT&T down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last day. To tell if the problem is only on your side, test another device on the same network and try cellular data instead of Wi-Fi; if other sites load and only the AT&T app or site fails, the fault is likely local. Restart the phone or router, then check again.

Why does my phone say 'No Service' or 'SOS only' on AT&T?

Those messages point to a lost carrier signal on your phone. Toggle Airplane Mode and restart the phone, then reseat the SIM if the message stays. If a second phone on the same account works nearby, your SIM or line is the likely problem. Use the help centre to reach support if the message stays.

Why can't I sign in to my AT&T account after a password reset?

A new password can take a short time to work across the app and the website. Try signing in through a browser first, then clear the app data or reinstall it; if the app still rejects the new password, use the help centre to recover the account.

Why does AT&T Wi-Fi Calling keep turning off on my phone?

Wi-Fi Calling needs a supported phone and current carrier settings. Update the phone software and toggle Wi-Fi Calling off and on; if the switch disappears, the network or account setting may be blocking it. Reach support through the help centre when the toggle will not stay on.

Why is my AT&T payment still pending after I paid my bill?

A card or bank payment can show as pending while the bank clears it, even after the app accepts it. Do not pay a second time; check your payment history in the app and your bank account, then contact support with the confirmation number if the charge posts twice.

How we track AT&T

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for AT&T, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for AT&T, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. AT&T doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
