Troubleshooting

How to fix YouTube TV not working

YouTube TV is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach tv.youtube.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Force quit YouTube TV

On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and flick the YouTube TV card away; on Android, open Settings > Apps > YouTube TV > Force stop. Open the app again.

  2. Check your network on YouTube TV

Open a web page on your phone while it is on the same Wi-Fi, then turn Wi-Fi off and back on in Control Center or Quick Settings. On a Roku, go to Settings > Network > Check connection. A weak local link drops video before the app shows a clear error.

  3. Restart your device and router

Unplug the router for 30 seconds, then plug it back in; on an Android TV, use Settings > System > Restart. Wait for the network and device to reconnect, then open the app.

  4. Clear app data or reinstall

On Android TV or Google TV, go to Settings > Apps > See all apps > YouTube TV > Clear cache; if the app still fails, choose Clear data and sign in again. On a phone or tablet, delete the app and install it again from the App Store or Google Play.

While YouTube TV is down: what to use instead

  • Hulu + Live TV If you need live channels and on demand shows in one app, sign in here and use its live guide while the service is unavailable.
  • Sling TV Use this when one live channel is missing and you can switch before a scheduled show starts.
  • Fubo Try this when sports is the reason you opened the app.
  • An antenna An antenna gets local broadcast channels on a TV with a tuner, which helps during a network broadcast if you do not want another streaming sign up.
Same time

Problems at the same time as YouTube TV

Since 27 October, all 3 of YouTube TV's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when YouTube TV goes down

YouTube TV is a live TV streaming service with local broadcast channels, sports, cloud DVR, and on-demand shows, and households use it in place of a cable box. An outage cuts live playback and the recordings you saved.

Live channels fail first. Playback spins, or the stream drops to a black screen while the guide still loads. Cloud DVR recordings and on-demand titles often fail next, and sign-in can stall on a phone or a streaming stick. Trouble often hits one local channel or one region while the rest of the app works; try another device or network to separate a local fault from a wider service issue.

Questions

YouTube TV FAQ

Is YouTube TV down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for YouTube TV are above their usual level; the site does not test the service itself. Try another device or a different network. If only one device fails while other internet apps work, the problem is on your side or in that app install.

Why do I get a home area error when I travel?

Local channels follow the home area tied to your account, so travel can trigger a message that you are outside your home area. If the message appears at home, open the app there and check the home area listed for your account. Turn off any VPN before you test again. A VPN can make the app think you are somewhere else.

Why does playback stop with 'There was an error loading the player'?

That message points to a failed handoff between the app and the video stream. Your internet connection can still be fine while one channel fails. Force close the app and try the same channel on another device; if only one device shows the error, reinstall the app there. If every device fails on that channel, the problem is more likely on the service side.

Why does the app say my payment method was declined?

A declined payment can come from your bank or from a card that has expired. Update the payment method in your account, then retry. If it still fails, call the bank and ask about the attempted subscription charge; a short hold on the card is enough to cause it.

Why does the app sign me out on my TV?

TV apps often lose the sign-in token after an update or a long idle stretch. Sign in again with the same Google account tied to the membership. Check the TV's date and time before you retry, because a wrong clock can break sign-in; a weak Wi-Fi connection can do the same.

How we track YouTube TV

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for YouTube TV, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for YouTube TV, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. YouTube TV doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
