Troubleshooting

How to fix Starbucks not working

Starbucks is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach starbucks.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Force quit Starbucks

On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom edge and swipe the Starbucks app card up; on Android, open Recents and swipe the card away. Reopen it and repeat the order or scan step that failed. That clears stuck screens.

  2. Test Starbucks over cellular

Turn off Wi-Fi in Control Center or Quick Settings and try the same action over cellular; if that works, forget the network in Settings > Wi-Fi and join it again. A VPN can block the app, so turn it off long enough to test the scan screen.

  3. Update the Starbucks app

Open the App Store and tap your profile icon to load available updates; on Google Play, open your profile and open Manage apps & device. Install any Starbucks update you see, because an old build can fail at checkout while the rest of the app loads fine.

  4. Clear Starbucks cache or reinstall

On Android, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Starbucks > Storage & cache > Clear cache, then reopen the app. If the order screen still fails, uninstall the app and install it again from Google Play; on iPhone, delete it from the Home Screen and reinstall from the App Store, then sign in and retry.

While Starbucks is down: what to use instead

  • Counter order Order at the counter if the app stalls.
  • Drive-thru At a location with a drive-thru, order at the speaker when you want the same drink without waiting on a phone screen.
  • Starbucks Card Cash or a plastic card keeps payment moving when the app cannot show your balance or barcode.
  • Dunkin' A nearby Dunkin' works when you need coffee fast and the app keeps failing; use its app or order at the counter.

Problems at the same time as Starbucks

Since 27 October, all 8 of Starbucks's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Starbucks goes down

Starbucks is a coffee chain with a mobile app and rewards program that commuters, students, office workers, and travelers use to order ahead or pay in store. An outage interrupts mobile ordering and the pickup flow for drinks and food.

Sign-in and store lookup often fail first, so you cannot get past the opening screen or confirm which nearby location is taking mobile orders. Some orders freeze. The app shows received while the counter has no ticket, and card balance or rewards points may show stale numbers even as mobile order and pay drop out store by store. Reports cluster by city or neighborhood while counter service and cash payment at the same location keep working, so a failure in one area says little about the next.

Questions

Starbucks FAQ

Is Starbucks down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether Starbucks problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. This site does not ping or check the service from multiple locations; it counts reports. Test your side. Open the app on another device or try the website over cellular data; a second app can confirm the connection.

Why does the Starbucks app keep saying it can't connect when my internet works?

That message usually means the app cannot reach the order or account service; your Wi-Fi may be fine. Close the app. Load a simple website in your browser and sign back in after turning off any VPN. If the same message appears on cellular data and a second device, the problem sits on the service side.

Why did my Starbucks Card reload fail but my card still work in the store?

A reload can fail when the app cannot reach the payment processor or when your bank blocks the charge as suspicious. Check the balance. If no charge shows and the balance stays the same, try the reload again on a stable connection.

Why does Starbucks mobile order say a store is unavailable?

That screen often means the store has turned off mobile order or is out of an item you picked. Try a different store in the app, and check the store's hours. Stores can close mobile order without closing the counter.

Why are my Starbucks Rewards stars missing after I ordered in the app?

Stars can show up late when the app has trouble syncing your account, and a mobile order paid with a linked card can take longer to post. Open your order history and confirm the order used your account. If the stars still do not appear after the usual posting window, sign out and back in, then ask support in the app.

How we track Starbucks

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Starbucks, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Starbucks, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Starbucks doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
