User reports, last 24 hours

85 reports in total, counted in 15-minute windows

No problem reports came in for CityFibre in the last hour, against about 4 at this time on a usual day. Over the last 24 hours there were 85 reports. Most recent reports were about broadband internet (85%) and WiFi (15%). The last spike in reports was 18 h ago and lasted 15 min. These are user reports from the UK, where most people report CityFibre problems.

In the past 24 hours, 85 user reports came in for CityFibre. Counting only the 15-minute windows with a spike big enough to count as an outage, that comes to 100.00% uptime for the day. The busiest 15-minute window had 10 reports, about 18 hours ago. That stays below our outage threshold, so it doesn't count as downtime.

Where CityFibre problem reports come from

The map shows where recent problem reports for CityFibre came from in the UK. Big cities always send the most, so dots in many places point to a widespread problem, and one area far ahead of the rest can mean a regional one.

Troubleshooting

How to fix CityFibre not working

CityFibre is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach cityfibre.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check the CityFibre report level

The top of the page shows whether problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the previous 24 hours. If they are above, the fault is likely wider than your connection; if they are not, work through your own kit.

  2. Restart the CityFibre ONT and router

Unplug the power lead from the ONT and the router, wait 30 seconds, then plug the ONT back in first. Wait for its PON light to go solid before you power the router, because that order lets the optical link settle before the router asks for an address.

  3. Check the CityFibre ONT lights

Find the small ONT box where the fibre enters your home and check that LOS is off and PON is solid green. A red LOS light means no optical signal, so call your broadband provider instead of resetting the router again.

  4. Report the ONT fault to your ISP

If LOS stays red after a restart, tell your broadband provider the ONT has no optical signal and read out the serial number from the label. Do not unplug the fibre lead; the connector is fragile and a broken optical link is not a home fix.

While CityFibre is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot Tether your laptop to your phone when you need a working connection for email, a file upload, or a support chat that cannot wait.
  • Public Wi-Fi Use a library or cafe network for low-risk tasks; skip banking on a network you do not control.
  • Provider phone line Call your provider's support line when the fault needs an engineer or an account fix, since the retail provider owns your contract even if the fibre network is at fault.
  • Mobile data Keep the phone on mobile data for calls and maps.
Same time

Problems at the same time as CityFibre

Since 28 October, all 2 of CityFibre's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when CityFibre goes down

CityFibre runs a UK full fibre network that partner internet providers use to sell broadband to homes and businesses. When its network falters, you lose the connection your work call, streaming, gaming, or home security depends on.

On a CityFibre connection, the first sign is a page that will not load and a video call that freezes; streaming buffers, downloads stall, and smart cameras or alarms drop off the network. Your device can show a strong Wi-Fi signal with no internet behind it. Problems can be street-level or spread across a town, and a routing fault at a partner ISP can hit only some addresses while neighbours stay online. The status at the top uses problem reports in 15-minute windows over 24 hours; it does not ping or probe the network, so treat the report count as a signal and not a full diagnosis.

Questions

CityFibre FAQ

Is CityFibre down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for CityFibre are above their usual level; it counts reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. To tell whether the fault is only on your side, restart the router and ONT, then test a wired connection on a second device. If the wired test works while Wi-Fi fails, the issue is in your home.

Why does my CityFibre ONT show a red LOS light?

A red LOS light means the ONT has lost the optical signal from the CityFibre network. Check that the thin fibre lead is clicked into the ONT and the wall box, and that the ONT has power. If it stays red, contact the ISP that bills you; they raise the fault with the network operator.

Can I use my own router with a CityFibre connection?

Most partner ISPs let you use your own router, but the login method varies: some need PPPoE details, others hand out an address by DHCP. Ask your ISP for the settings and keep the supplied router for fault tests. If the router cannot get an address, check the WAN cable and the ISP login details first.

Do I pay CityFibre directly for my broadband?

Usually no. CityFibre builds the network and partner ISPs sell the service, so your bill and support sit with the ISP. Check the trading name on your bank statement if a charge looks wrong, then raise it with the provider that sold you the connection.

Why does my CityFibre router show 'No Internet' when the ONT lights are green?

Green ONT lights mean the fibre link is up, so the fault is likely between the router and the ISP login. Check the WAN cable and reboot the router, then confirm the PPPoE username and password if your ISP uses them. If the router still shows no internet, call the ISP with the ONT light states.

How we track CityFibre

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for CityFibre, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for CityFibre, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. CityFibre doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
