Troubleshooting

How to fix Plusnet not working

Plusnet is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach plus.net over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check Plusnet report level

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. It does not ping your line or test your router; a high level points to a wider problem, while a normal level points back to your setup.

  2. Restart the Plusnet hub

Unplug the power lead from the hub and leave it unplugged for 30 seconds. Plug it back in, then let the lights settle; if the broadband light stays off, leave the hub powered and move to the cabling check.

  3. Check the Plusnet hub's DSL cable

Trace the cable from the hub's broadband port to the phone socket and push both ends in; if that socket also has a phone, fit a microfilter and plug the hub into the modem socket on it. Remove any extension lead and test from the main socket before you change router settings.

  4. Check broadband settings in the Plusnet hub

Go to 192.168.1.254 in a browser and sign in with the admin details from the hub card. In Advanced Settings > Broadband > Internet, check the username and password fields have the account details; if they are blank or wrong, enter the details from your Plusnet account information and save.

While Plusnet is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot When the broadband drops, turn on your phone's hotspot and connect a laptop so email and banking still work.
  • Public Wi-Fi Take a laptop to a library or cafe with public Wi-Fi if you need to send something urgent and mobile data is weak.
  • Plusnet phone support Call support from a mobile if you need account help and the web pages will not load.
  • Ethernet and router restart Plug a laptop into the router with an Ethernet cable to check whether the Wi-Fi is the fault; restart the router once if the cable still gives no connection.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Plusnet

Since 27 October, all 5 of Plusnet's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

Each bar is the average number of user reports in that hour, or on that day of the week, from 21 days of reports since 5 October 2026. The busiest bar is highlighted. Spikes in reports are left out, so one outage does not set the pattern.

About

What happens when Plusnet goes down

Plusnet sells broadband and home phone service to UK households and small offices that need a working internet line and landline. An outage cuts browsing, video calls, streaming, and ordinary phone calls, so this page helps you judge whether other people report the same trouble.

Pages fail first and phone apps stop refreshing while your router may still show a live DSL or fibre connection; streaming and video calls stall next, and a landline can keep dial tone even when broadband is unusable. Wired devices often keep a local network link, so a laptop shows a connected, no internet warning while the router admin page still opens. Partial failures are common. The app does not ping or monitor the service itself; its status at the top counts user problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, so a regional fault can show up without a live line test from multiple locations.

Questions

Plusnet FAQ

Is Plusnet down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Plusnet are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. This app does not ping or monitor the service itself. If only one device fails while another on your line works, check that device's Wi-Fi or DNS settings before you blame the line.

Why does my Plusnet Hub show a red internet light?

A red internet light usually means the hub has no connection to the broadband network. Check the cable between the hub and the phone socket, and test that socket with a phone; if the broadband light is also off, the line may be down. If only the internet light is red, restart the hub and look at its connection settings when it comes back.

Why does my Plusnet broadband slow down in the evening?

Evening slowdown often comes from Wi-Fi congestion or a busier line. Test a device plugged into the hub with an Ethernet cable, then compare that with the same test over Wi-Fi. If the wired speed is fine, move the hub away from TVs and microwaves and try the 5 GHz band if your hub has it.

I can't log in to the Plusnet Member Centre. What should I check?

Start with the username and password saved in your browser, because an old saved password is a common cause. If the login page still rejects you, use the password reset link. A private browser window can also show whether a content blocker is breaking the login button.

Why has my Plusnet email stopped working in Outlook?

Test webmail first. Plusnet email in Outlook usually fails when the mail server name or password has changed, so compare the Outlook account settings with the webmail login. If webmail works but Outlook does not, delete the saved password and re-enter it; if both fail, check the mailbox in the Member Centre.

How we track Plusnet

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Plusnet, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Plusnet, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Plusnet doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
