Troubleshooting

How to fix GOV.BR not working

When GOV.BR itself is having trouble, these steps won't bring it back, but they will rule out anything on your side:

Your browser tries to reach gov.br over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Refresh the GOV.BR login

Open gov.br again and choose Entrar com gov.br, then type the CPF with numbers only. If the password screen loops or stays blank, open a private window: Chrome menu > New Incognito tab, or Safari tabs button > Private > +.

  2. Clear GOV.BR cookies

In Chrome on a computer, paste chrome://settings/siteData in the address bar, search for gov.br, and remove the saved site data. In Edge, use edge://settings/siteData; sign in again after the page reloads.

  3. Allow the GOV.BR camera

When face validation or QR code reading fails, give the app camera access. On Android, open Settings > Apps > gov.br > Permissions > Camera > Allow only while using the app; on iPhone, open Settings > Apps > gov.br and turn on Camera.

  4. Reinstall the GOV.BR app

If the app opens to a blank screen, freezes after the CPF step, or will not read the QR code, remove it and install it again. On Android, open Settings > Apps > gov.br > Uninstall, then install it from Google Play; on iPhone, open Settings > General > iPhone Storage > gov.br > Delete App, then install it from the App Store.

While GOV.BR is down: what to use instead

  • App gov.br If the website will not load, try the official app for account access, identity validation, and documents tied to your login.
  • Browser access If the app freezes, use the gov.br website in a private browser window and try the sign-in again.
  • Agency channel For a deadline, contact the public agency that owns the service, since INSS, Receita Federal, and other bodies may have their own attendance options.
  • Saved documents If you only need to show proof, use a saved PDF or physical document you already have until the service works again.
Same time

Problems at the same time as GOV.BR

Since 3 November, all 5 of GOV.BR's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when GOV.BR goes down

GOV.BR is Brazil's federal government portal and login system for public services tied to a CPF account. People use it for taxes, benefits, digital identity, signatures, and agency websites, so an outage can stop a form submission or block access to a service you need.

Login usually shows trouble first. The CPF and password screen may hang, a one-time code or app approval may not arrive, or the service can loop back to the sign-in page after you submit details. The gov.br app can also fail to open the account area, confirm identity, or approve a login for another government site. Problems are often partial, because a public page may load while authentication or a connected agency service still fails; some issues can feel regional when access paths inside Brazil are affected.

Questions

GOV.BR FAQ

Is GOV.BR down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for GOV.BR are above their usual level, using 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports come from users who send them to a public outage-reporting service; this site does not monitor the service or collect reports itself. If the status looks normal, try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, a private browser window, and the GOV.BR app, since a saved login session or local DNS issue can affect only you.

Why can't I sign in to GOV.BR with my CPF and password?

A saved wrong password, an expired session, or blocked cookies can stop the CPF login before the account page loads. Try the password reset path, then open a private browser window or switch from the app to the website. If the reset page loops or never sends you forward, check the status here before repeating the same steps.

Why does the gov.br app fail during facial recognition?

The app needs camera permission, clear light, and a stable connection during the selfie check. Clean the lens, remove glasses if glare is heavy, and keep your face inside the frame until the scan finishes. When the selfie step returns to the start after several tries, check the status here before repeating the scan.

Why can I log in but Meu INSS or Receita Federal will not open?

The single sign-on can accept your CPF while the agency system behind the next page is slow, under maintenance, or asking for a higher account level. Sign out of the target service, close the browser tab, and open it again from gov.br after a few minutes. If only one agency page fails, the wider login system may be fine.

Why does a service say my gov.br account level is too low?

Many Brazilian government services require silver or gold access before they show personal data or allow a request. Open the app or account settings and use one of the offered validation methods, such as bank validation or facial recognition, if available to you. If the level changes but the service still blocks you, sign out and start a fresh session.

How we track GOV.BR

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for GOV.BR, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for GOV.BR, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. GOV.BR doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
