Freenet outages and problems

User reports, last 24 hours

3,299 reports in total, counted in 15-minute windows

In the last hour, 23 problem reports came in for Freenet, and at this time of day there are usually almost none. Over the last 24 hours there were 3,299 reports. The last spike in reports was 17 min ago and lasted 26 min. These are user reports from Germany, where most people report Freenet problems.

In the past 24 hours, 3,299 user reports came in for Freenet. Counting only the 15-minute windows with a spike big enough to count as an outage, that comes to 100.00% uptime for the day. The busiest 15-minute window had 73 reports, about 9 hours ago. That stays below our outage threshold, so it doesn't count as downtime.

Troubleshooting

How to fix Freenet not working

Freenet is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach freenet.de over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Refresh the Freenet SIM

After you turn Flugmodus on for 10 seconds, turn it off again so the phone registers with the network from scratch. On iPhone, open Einstellungen > Mobilfunk and keep Mobile Daten on; on Android, open Einstellungen > Netzwerk & Internet > SIMs and keep Mobile Daten on for the line you use.

  2. Check the freenet app

If the freenet Mobilfunk app will not load usage or invoices, test the same account in a browser at freenet.de. On iPhone, open App Store > account icon and update the app if it appears; on Android, open Play Store > profile icon > Manage apps and device > Updates available.

  3. Use automatic network selection

Freenet contracts can be on different German mobile networks, so a forced carrier choice can block service after travel or a SIM change. On iPhone, open Einstellungen > Mobilfunk > Netzauswahl and turn Automatisch on; on Android, open Einstellungen > Netzwerk & Internet > SIMs > Netz automatisch auswählen.

  4. Reset Freenet phone settings

Use this after the simple checks, because it clears saved WLAN passwords and Bluetooth pairings. On iPhone, open Einstellungen > Allgemein > iPhone übertragen/zurücksetzen > Zurücksetzen > Netzwerkeinstellungen zurücksetzen; on Android, open Einstellungen > System > Optionen zurücksetzen > WLAN, mobile Daten & Bluetooth zurücksetzen, then restart the phone.

While Freenet is down: what to use instead

  • Home Wi-Fi If mobile data is failing, connect your phone to Wi-Fi and use messaging or internet calling until service returns.
  • Second SIM A spare SIM from Telekom, Vodafone, or O2 can keep you online if your Freenet mobile plan cannot place calls or load data.
  • Landline phone Use a fixed-line phone from home, work, or someone nearby when you need to make a call and mobile service is unstable.
  • Freenet website or app If only one channel fails, try the other one for account changes, invoices, or tariff details before waiting it out.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Freenet

Since 3 November, all 5 of Freenet's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Freenet goes down

Freenet is a German telecom brand for mobile contracts, phones, and online customer services at freenet.de. People in Germany rely on it for mobile access and account management, so an outage can interrupt calls, data, login, and billing tasks.

Mobile problems are the most visible: a phone may show no service, mobile data may stall, or calls and texts may fail while WiFi still works. Account faults can block the customer area, contract changes, SIM actions, or bill downloads even when the main website opens. Login and account pages often show trouble before every line is affected, because a portal fault can be separate from the mobile network. Problems can be regional or partial, since Freenet mobile plans use German network access that may fail in one area while other services keep working.

Questions

Freenet FAQ

Is Freenet down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user reports for Freenet are above their usual level, based on 15 minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports go to a public outage-reporting service, and this site does not monitor the service or collect reports itself. Check another device on the same connection, then try mobile data against Wi-Fi; if one path works, the fault is probably local. Restart the router or phone and check your login or SIM settings before assuming a wider outage.

Why can I not log in to my Freenet account or the freenet Mail app?

If the page says the password is wrong, reset it from the login screen and watch for old saved passwords in your browser or phone. A working web login with a failing mail app points to app settings, so remove the account and add it again with the current password. If neither login path works and the status here is raised, wait before changing the same password many times.

Why does my freenet mobile SIM have no data in Germany?

Toggle flight mode once, then check whether calls work while mobile data does not. When calls work, the issue often sits in the APN or data setting on the phone; compare it with the values shown in your account or SIM paperwork. If no calls work either, test the SIM in another phone or set network selection to automatic.

Why is freenet Mail not sending or receiving messages?

Open webmail in a browser first. If webmail works but your mail app does not, the problem is on the device side, so check the account password and the incoming or outgoing server settings. If webmail also fails, leave the app alone for a while and check the page status before you delete mail or reinstall anything.

Why does freenet TV show no signal or missing private HD channels?

No signal often means the receiver or antenna is not getting the DVB-T2 broadcast; start with an automatic channel scan and the antenna position. Missing private HD channels point more toward activation, the CI+ module, the registered receiver, or the subscription state. Check coverage for your German postcode before buying new hardware, because reception can change by region.

How we track Freenet

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Freenet, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Freenet, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Freenet doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
