Troubleshooting

How to fix New World not working

New World is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach newworld.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Reload and restart

Reload the page (Ctrl+F5, or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac), or fully close the app and open it again.

  2. Try another connection

Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data. If it works on one and not the other, the problem is your network, not New World.

  3. Update the app

Install the latest version from the App Store or Google Play. Old versions can stop connecting after a server-side change.

Error messages

Common New World error messages

What each message means and what to try. The wording can differ a little between app versions.

  • Lag Detected

    Means
The game client is not getting a steady response from the server, so movement, combat, or loading can stall.
    Fix
Wait a minute before you relog, since a forced restart can leave your character stuck in the session. If it keeps happening, restart the game and your router, use a wired connection if you can, and check whether other players are reporting the same issue.

While New World is down: what to use instead

  • Steam If the website will not load but your PC copy is installed, try launching from Steam and let it apply any queued update.
  • PlayStation or Xbox library If you play on console, open the game from your library; this helps when only the site or store page is having trouble.
  • Final Fantasy XIV Pick this if you want another online RPG with quests, crafting, and group fights while New World is unavailable.
  • World of Warcraft Use this if you already have it installed and want a large MMO to play until the service works again.

How we track New World

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for New World, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for New World, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. New World doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
