Troubleshooting

How to fix Belastingdienst not working

Belastingdienst is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach belastingdienst.nl over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Open Mijn Belastingdienst fresh

Go to https://www.belastingdienst.nl and use Inloggen for the portal you need, such as Mijn Belastingdienst or Mijn toeslagen. If the page keeps spinning after login, open a private window: on Windows press Ctrl+Shift+N in Chrome or Edge, or on a Mac choose Safari > File > New Private Window.

  2. Allow the DigiD handoff

The login flow sends you to DigiD, and a blocked cookie or content blocker can leave you back at the start page. In Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies > Sites allowed to use third-party cookies, then add belastingdienst.nl and digid.nl. In Safari on iPhone, open the page, tap AA in the address bar, and choose Turn Off Content Blockers if that option appears.

  3. Clear old tax-site data

A stale session can keep Mijn Belastingdienst or Mijn toeslagen stuck after DigiD sends you back. In Chrome, open chrome://settings/siteData, search for belastingdienst.nl, and remove the stored data; in Edge, use edge://settings/siteData and do the same. Repeat for digid.nl, then close the browser and sign in again.

  4. Update the DigiD app

If you approve the login but the browser never returns to the tax portal, update the DigiD app before trying again. On iPhone, open App Store > profile icon > Update next to DigiD; on Android, open Play Store > profile icon > Manage apps & device > Updates available. Restart the phone after the update so the app handoff starts clean.

While Belastingdienst is down: what to use instead

  • Direct login to Mijn Belastingdienst If the public pages fail but the login page loads, you can sign in with DigiD to view tax matters or file a return.
  • Aangifte app For a simple income tax return, the mobile app may be enough while the website is slow or unreachable.
  • Toeslagen app Use it for healthcare, rent, childcare, or child budget benefit changes when your issue is about allowances.
  • BelastingTelefoon Call the tax phone line if you need a human answer and cannot wait for the online service to come back.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Belastingdienst

Since 4 November, Belastingdienst's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Belastingdienst goes down

Belastingdienst is the Dutch public tax authority at belastingdienst.nl, used by residents, businesses, employers, and tax advisers. An outage can interrupt income tax filing and access to Mijn Belastingdienst, especially when you need to view assessments or send a form.

Login usually shows it first. The site may fail to return you from DigiD, loop before the portal opens, or leave the page stuck after you confirm your identity. Inside Mijn Belastingdienst, return forms and assessment pages may load part way, refuse to save, or stall during submission. Problems can be partial: the public information pages may still open while Mijn toeslagen or the Aangifte app has sign-in or sending trouble.

Questions

Belastingdienst FAQ

Is Belastingdienst down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether reports are above their usual level for Belastingdienst, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports are sent by users to a public outage-reporting service, and this site does not monitor the service or collect reports itself. If the status looks normal, try another Dutch government site that uses DigiD, reload in a private window, and switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data. If only your browser fails, clear cookies for the site, turn off a VPN, or try the DigiD app again after closing it.

Why can’t I log in to Mijn Belastingdienst with DigiD?

Login problems often sit between the tax site and DigiD, so note where it breaks. If the DigiD app approval never arrives, open the app yourself and check that the session did not expire; if the browser returns to the login page, allow cookies and leave private mode. A stuck page after login can also clear after you close every tab for the site and start a fresh session.

Why does Mijn toeslagen show a blank page or the wrong benefit details?

Mijn toeslagen uses your DigiD session, and old cookies can leave you signed in but stuck on an empty overview. Sign out, close the browser, then open it again rather than refreshing the same tab. If the details look wrong, check that you are using the DigiD for the person whose toeslag you need, since partners can have separate records.

Why will the Aangifte app not send my income tax return?

The Aangifte app is meant for income tax returns that fit inside the app flow, so some situations have to be finished through the website. If sending fails after the final check, update the app, restart the phone, and try on a steady connection. When the app keeps returning to the same step, use the online return in Mijn Belastingdienst so you are not fighting the phone session.

Why does an iDEAL payment from Mijn Belastingdienst fail or stay open?

An iDEAL payment can fail after you leave the tax site because the bank session times out or the return to the site gets blocked. Do not pay twice from the same open tab; first check your bank account and the payment overview. If no payment went through, start a new session and keep pop-up blockers or tracking protection from blocking the bank handoff.

How we track Belastingdienst

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Belastingdienst, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Belastingdienst, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Belastingdienst doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
