Troubleshooting

How to fix Eir not working

Eir is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach eir.ie over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Test a second device on the Eir line

Try another device. Open the same app or website on another phone or laptop connected to the same Wi-Fi, or switch your phone to mobile data; if the second device loads fine, the fault sits on your first device, and if neither works, restart the router next.

  2. Restart the Eir router and your phone

Restart both ends. Unplug the router power lead, wait 30 seconds, plug it back in, and let the lights settle; restart your phone while the router comes back, then test one Wi-Fi device and one mobile-data device.

  3. Reset network settings for the Eir SIM

On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings; this clears saved Wi-Fi passwords and VPN profiles, so have those ready. On Android, open Settings and use the search field at the top for Reset network settings, then confirm; the exact path varies by manufacturer. Rejoin your Wi-Fi after.

  4. Call Eir support with the fault details

Gather the details before you call. Have your account number and the affected phone number or broadband line reference ready, plus the times you first noticed the fault and any router light pattern. Ask support to test the line from their side; the status page cannot ping or probe your connection.

While Eir is down: what to use instead

  • Another mobile network A SIM from another network gets you online when the Eir broadband line is out.
  • Public Wi-Fi Join public Wi-Fi when mobile data is weak.
  • Landline or other network phone Use a landline or a phone on another network to make calls if the mobile service will not connect.
  • Browser version Open the website in a browser if the app will not load.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Eir

Since 28 October, all 6 of Eir's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Eir goes down

Eir is an Irish telecom provider with broadband, mobile and TV services. Households and small businesses rely on it for work calls and streaming, so an outage can cut a meeting or a match in the middle.

Broadband usually breaks first: your router may keep its Wi-Fi light on while phones and laptops show connected, yet pages time out. Mobile faults can bring dropped calls, data that will not load, failed texts, or 'No Service' on the handset, and they may hit one town or one cell while other areas work. Eir TV and on demand streaming stall or fail to load because they ride the same line. Faults can be local to an exchange or cabinet, or partial across a service, so check whether a neighbour on the same street has the same trouble.

Questions

Eir FAQ

Is Eir down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Eir are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor the service itself, and it never checks from multiple locations. To check whether the problem is only on your side, test another connection on the same device and restart your router or phone. If other people nearby report the same symptom at the same time, the issue is probably not just your setup.

Why does my Eir broadband keep dropping when the router lights look normal?

A solid internet light does not always mean the line is carrying traffic. If Wi-Fi drops on one device but wired connections stay up, the fault is likely local: move the router away from thick walls and reboot it once. If every device loses the connection at the same time, report the line fault to Eir and note the router light pattern.

Why does my Eir mobile show No Service in a coverage area?

Your phone can show No Service after a SIM swap or a local mast fault. Toggle airplane mode once, then reseat the SIM. If a second Eir phone on the same account also loses signal in the same spot, the problem is on the network side.

Why can't I log in to My Eir or the Eir app?

A login loop usually points to a password problem or an app session that has gone stale. Reset the password through the account recovery flow, then reinstall the app if the same screen returns; a saved browser password can also keep sending an old login. If the account recovery email never arrives, check your spam folder and confirm you can receive mail at the address on the account.

Why is my Eir bill payment failing or showing twice?

A failed card payment can leave a pending hold that looks like a double charge for a day or two, so check your bank statement before you pay again. If the card expires or the billing address has changed, update those details in the account area and try the payment once more. Keep the reference number from any failed attempt and contact billing support if the hold does not clear.

How we track Eir

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Eir, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Eir, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Eir doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
