World map

Where Smart problem reports come from

The map shows where recent problem reports for Smart came from in the Philippines. Big cities always send the most, so dots in many places point to a widespread problem, and one area far ahead of the rest can mean a regional one.

  • Outage now
  • Problems now
  • Normal
Each dot is a group of recent reports, coloured by how its country is doing now; bigger dots, more reports.

Troubleshooting

How to fix Smart not working

Smart is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach smart.com.ph over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Switch networks for Smart

Turn Airplane Mode on for a few seconds, then off, which drops and rebuilds the radio link. If the app still stalls, switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data; one route can fail while the other works.

  2. Restart the app

Close the app from the recent-apps screen and open it again, since that clears a stuck session and takes only a few seconds. Try it first.

  3. Clear cache on Android

Open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Smart > Storage & cache, then tap Clear cache. On iPhone there is no cache button; go to the reinstall step.

  4. Reinstall the app

Delete the app and install it again from your phone's app store; restart the phone first if the install fails. If the app still fails to load, compare the report level at the top of this page before you spend more time on the phone.

While Smart is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile browser Open the Smart website in your phone browser when the app stalls or refuses to load.
  • Another carrier's SIM A prepaid SIM from a different network keeps calls, texts, and mobile data working if the Smart signal drops.
  • Wi-Fi calling Turn on Wi-Fi calling on your phone when you have a stable internet connection and the mobile network is unreliable.
  • Viber or WhatsApp Message people over Wi-Fi with Viber or WhatsApp if they use the same app and you need to reach them without mobile service.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Smart

Since 28 October, all 3 of Smart's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Smart goes down

Smart is a mobile network with an app for account top-ups, and subscribers plus small businesses lean on it for calls, texts, mobile data, and payments. When the service falters, your call drops and mobile data stalls, so work and errands stop in place.

During an outage, mobile data may stall and pages hang, while calls fail to connect or drop mid-call; texts can queue up and arrive late. The Smart app may refuse to load your balance or top-up screen, and store payments tied to the number can fail at the counter. Trouble often starts in one area or on one feature, so a phone that shows no service or a single dead app screen does not prove the whole network is down. Service can return in stages.

Questions

Smart FAQ

Is Smart down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for Smart are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping or probe the service, so treat that reading as a report signal, not a live test. To tell whether the problem is only on your side, switch airplane mode on and off, restart your phone, check the SIM in another handset, and ask someone nearby on the same network.

Why is my Smart load not showing after a top-up?

A top-up can lag behind the confirmation message, so check the SMS receipt and your balance in the app before you buy again. If the load still does not appear, restart the phone and keep the receipt handy for support.

Why does the Smart app fail when I pay my bill?

Bill payments often fail when the app loses a stable connection or the bank page times out; wait for the payment result before you retry. Check your bank or wallet for a charge first.

Why does my Smart Bro Home WiFi show no internet?

Check the modem lights, reseat the SIM, tighten the antenna or cable connections, and restart the unit. If the signal light stays off or red, move the modem near a window and test again.

Why is my Smart number not receiving one-time passwords?

A one-time password can fail because of signal drop, a full message inbox, a blocked sender, or a handset that is set to block unknown numbers. Restart the phone and request a new code after a short wait.

How we track Smart

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Smart, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Smart, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Smart doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
