Troubleshooting

How to fix Quantum Fiber not working

Quantum Fiber is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach quantumfiber.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check Quantum Fiber reports first

The status at the top of this page counts problem reports from other people in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; a spike points to a wider outage, while a flat line points at your home setup. This site does not ping or probe the service, so treat the report level as a crowd signal, not a live test.

  2. Reboot the SmartNID and router

Unplug power from the SmartNID and any separate router, wait 30 seconds, then plug the SmartNID back first and let its status light stop flashing before you power the router. A full pull clears stale sessions that a quick off and on does not.

  3. Forget the Quantum Fiber Wi-Fi network

Forget the Wi-Fi network on your device and rejoin it; on iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the network, then Forget This Network. Rejoin the network and enter the Wi-Fi password again so the device gets a fresh address from the gateway.

  4. Test a wired connection to the SmartNID

Plug a laptop into a LAN port on the SmartNID with an Ethernet cable, then turn off Wi-Fi on the laptop so it cannot fall back to the wireless network. On Windows, open Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi and set Wi-Fi to Off; on a Mac, open Control Center and turn Wi-Fi off. If the wired connection works, the problem is in the router or Wi-Fi settings; if it fails, the issue sits with the SmartNID or the fiber line.

While Quantum Fiber is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot Turn on your phone's hotspot and connect a laptop or TV when the fiber line drops and you need email, banking, file uploads or a video call.
  • Cellular data Switch your phone to cellular data if the app or web account won't load.
  • Public Wi-Fi Use a library or cafe network for large uploads and software updates while your home connection stays offline.
  • Phone support Call support if the app fails.

Problems at the same time as Quantum Fiber

Since 27 October, Quantum Fiber's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Quantum Fiber goes down

Quantum Fiber is a fiber internet service for homes and small offices. An outage cuts off video calls and cloud access for anyone working or relaxing on that connection, and the status at the top of the page shows whether problem reports for the service are above their usual level over the last 24 hours, counted in 15-minute windows.

When the fiber line drops, your Wi-Fi can stay connected while web pages and video calls fail, and a phone may show a strong signal with a no internet warning. Video calls freeze first. Cloud sync stalls and streaming video buffers soon after, while a wired computer on the same router hits the same wall if the fiber line is out. The trouble can be regional across a neighborhood or partial at one address, and the report level cannot tell you which; the site does not ping, probe, poll or monitor the service itself, and it never checks from multiple locations.

Questions

Quantum Fiber FAQ

Is Quantum Fiber down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. It does not ping or probe the service itself. To tell whether the problem is only on your side, restart your router and modem, then compare a second device on the same network with a cellular hotspot. If other sites load over the hotspot, your home connection or local setup is the likely cause.

Why does the Quantum Fiber app show my network as offline while my WiFi still works?

The app can hold a stale session or point at the wrong account, so sign out and back in before you trust that screen. Confirm the network name in your phone's WiFi settings matches the account, and restart the router if the app still disagrees; this page only counts reports and does not check your line.

Why does my Quantum Fiber WiFi drop in one room but not another?

Fiber can reach the router while WiFi fades at the far end of the house, especially through brick or metal. Move the router off the floor and away from metal furniture, then test the same device near the router; if the signal still drops, a WiFi extender or mesh node may be the fix.

Why won't my Quantum Fiber bill payment go through?

Most failed payments come from an expired card or a billing ZIP mismatch; fix the card details first and try again. If it still fails, call the billing number on your statement and ask the bank whether it blocked the charge.

Can I use my own router with Quantum Fiber?

You can often put the Quantum Fiber device in bridge mode and run your own router, but support may not troubleshoot third-party gear. Confirm the connection type with support before you change settings, and keep the original device handy if you need to test the line.

How we track Quantum Fiber

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Quantum Fiber, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Quantum Fiber, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Quantum Fiber doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
