How to fix App Store not working

App Store is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach apple.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check App Store status

    Open Apple's System Status page in a browser and find the App Store entry. If it shows an outage, wait for Apple to clear it; if it is green, the fault is likely on your device or account.

  2. Force quit the App Store

    On a Face ID iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and pause, then swipe the App Store card up to close it. On a Home button iPhone, double-click Home and swipe the card up; reopen the app and repeat the action that failed.

  3. Restore App Store network access

    Turn on Airplane Mode in Control Center, wait a few seconds, then turn it off. If the app still will not load, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to your network, tap Forget This Network, then join it again with the password.

  4. Sign out of your App Store account

    Open the App Store, tap your profile picture, scroll to the bottom, and tap Sign Out. Sign back in with your Apple Account, then try the download or update again; if the button is missing, use Settings > [your name] > Media & Purchases > Sign Out.

What happens when App Store goes down

The App Store is Apple's storefront for finding and installing apps on Apple devices, and people rely on it for app downloads and updates. An outage stops those downloads and can block a new install.

The first sign is usually a blank home tab or app pages that will not open. Downloads and updates then stall at the loading spinner; tapping Get or Update can show 'Cannot Connect to App Store' instead of starting the install. Purchases fail too. Subscription screens can hang, and the store may ask you to sign in again even when your account is fine; these problems are often partial or regional, so one device may load the app while another on the same network cannot.

Is App Store down right now?

Why does the App Store say Cannot Connect to App Store when my Wi-Fi works?
That message means your device cannot reach Apple's servers, even when your Wi-Fi is fine. Set the date and time to automatic and turn off any VPN. Try the same Apple ID on another device; if Apple's official status page shows an outage, wait it out.

Why does the App Store ask for payment verification during a free app update?
A failed or expired card can block updates, even free ones, because Apple checks the account's billing status. Update the payment method in Settings and clear any unpaid balance on the account. If the card is fine, sign out of Media & Purchases and sign back in.

Why did an app I bought disappear from my App Store purchase history?
Check the Apple ID you used at purchase and look in Hidden Purchases under your account. If Family Sharing is on, the app may belong to the organizer's account, so sign in with that ID to see it.

Why does the App Store say an app is not available in my region?
App listings follow the country tied to your Apple ID, and a developer can limit where an app is sold. Changing your account region needs a payment method for the new country and cancellation of active subscriptions. A VPN alone will not change the store catalog.
