Troubleshooting

How to fix Metro by T-Mobile not working

When Metro by T-Mobile itself is having trouble, these steps won't bring it back, but they will rule out anything on your side:

Your browser tries to reach metrobyt-mobile.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Toggle Airplane Mode on the Metro line

Open Settings and turn Airplane Mode on for a few seconds, then turn it off. If the phone has two SIMs, confirm the Metro line is the one selected for mobile data under Settings > Cellular or Settings > Network & internet > SIMs.

  2. Check your Metro account status

Open the Metro by T-Mobile app on Wi-Fi, sign in, and check the line status in the Account tab; a suspended line or a failed payment can stop calls and mobile data even when the phone shows bars. Settle any balance due, then restart the phone.

  3. Refresh the Metro SIM or eSIM

Power the phone off and reseat the SIM card. For an eSIM, open Settings > Cellular on iPhone or Settings > Network & internet > SIMs on Android, then turn the line off and back on.

  4. Reset network settings for the Metro line

On iPhone, open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings and confirm the reset. That wipes saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings, so try it after the simpler checks. On Android, look under Settings > System > Reset options for Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth, and use it only if the phone has that menu.

While Metro by T-Mobile is down: what to use instead

  • MyMetro website Use the account website in a browser when the app will not load, because you can sign in and make a payment there.
  • Metro store Go to a store and pay with a card or cash if in-app payment keeps failing and you need the account topped up.
  • Wi-Fi calling Turn on Wi-Fi calling on your phone when cellular calls fail, provided your phone supports it.
  • Customer care phone line Call customer care when chat will not open and you need a person to review the account.
Same time

Problems at the same time as Metro by T-Mobile

Since 27 October, Metro by T-Mobile's only spike in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Metro by T-Mobile goes down

Metro by T-Mobile is a prepaid wireless service with stores and an app for account access. Prepaid customers and small business owners rely on it for calls, texts, mobile data, and account management, so an outage interrupts the basics: calls fail, texts sit unsent, data stalls, and the app may not load your balance.

Calls and texts are the first thing many people notice. Your phone may show 'No service' or 'Emergency calls only,' calls drop or go straight to voicemail, texts sit unsent, and mobile data crawls or stops even when Wi-Fi calling still works. The app and website can also fail to load account details or payment screens, which makes a partial outage feel bigger than it looks. Report levels at the top of each page show when problem reports rise above their usual level in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours; the site does not ping or probe the network itself, so a local or regional problem can stand out while a wider outage fades into the usual background.

Questions

Metro by T-Mobile FAQ

Is Metro by T-Mobile down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. It does not ping or probe the service itself. To rule out your side, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular data, try the MyMetro app on a second device, open the account page in a browser, and restart the phone; if only one device fails, the issue is local.

Why does the MyMetro app keep saying my password is wrong?

A saved password can fail after an app update, and the login page may reject a password that still works on the website. Try a browser login. Reset the password from the account login screen if that fails; if the reset email does not arrive, check the spam folder and confirm the email on your account.

Why does my phone show Emergency calls only on Metro by T-Mobile?

That message means the phone cannot make normal calls over the network, even though emergency calls still go through. Check the basics first. Airplane mode, SIM seating, account status, and a manual network search are the four things to test; a suspended line or unpaid balance can produce the same symptom. Try the SIM in another phone, because a bad card and a local coverage gap look alike from the handset.

Can I use my Metro by T-Mobile SIM in an unlocked phone?

Yes, with two conditions. The phone must support the network bands the service uses, and the SIM must be active. Move the SIM to the unlocked phone, then check that mobile data and picture messages work, because some handsets need the APN settings entered by hand; keep the original phone until calls and data pass a quick test.

Why does a payment fail on the Metro by T-Mobile website?

A card payment can fail when the billing address does not match or the bank blocks the charge as unusual. Try a different browser, clear the saved card, switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data, and use another payment method; do not keep resubmitting the same card because that can trigger more holds. Check the MyMetro app first.

How we track Metro by T-Mobile

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Metro by T-Mobile, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Metro by T-Mobile, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Metro by T-Mobile doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
