Troubleshooting

How to fix Smite not working

Smite is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach account.hirezstudios.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Restart Smite and its launcher

Close the game, then quit Steam or Epic Games from the tray and open it again; on console, quit the app from the dashboard and launch it fresh. This clears a stuck sign-in or a frozen loading screen. Try it first.

  2. Bypass VPN and proxy for Smite

If a VPN or proxy is active, close it and turn off Use a proxy server under Settings > Network & internet > Proxy. Open Command Prompt and run ipconfig /flushdns; restart your router before you launch the app again. A changed route can break the login handshake even when your browser still loads pages.

  3. Verify game files for Smite

In Steam, open your Library, right-click the game, choose Properties > Installed Files, and click Verify integrity of game files. For Epic Games, open Library, click the three dots on the game, choose Manage, then Verify. The launcher replaces damaged files without a full reinstall.

  4. Open a Hi-Rez help ticket

Open the Hi-Rez help centre and submit a ticket with your platform, region, the exact error text, and the steps you already tried. Include your display name and the time the problem started, since support can match that to account logs. Do not send a new ticket for every retry; add notes to the existing one.

While Smite is down: what to use instead

  • League of Legends Pick this when you want a lane-based MOBA with a large champion roster and standard matchmaking.
  • Dota 2 Try it if you prefer deeper item builds and longer matches that reward practice.
  • Heroes of the Storm Use it for shorter team fights and shared team levels when a full-length MOBA is more than you want.
  • Pokémon Unite Reach for it on Switch or mobile if you want a compact MOBA with simpler controls.

Problems at the same time as Smite

Since 27 October, all 6 of Smite's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when Smite goes down

Smite is a team-based online battle arena game on PC and consoles where players pick gods and fight matches, and players rely on it for login, party invites, matchmaking, and matches already in progress. An outage interrupts all four.

A Smite outage can show up as a login failure or a matchmaking queue that hangs, and players on PC and consoles see those symptoms before a match even loads, while the store may fail to load and a match can stall at the god selection screen. A failed queue is common. Problems can be regional or partial, because one platform or one server group can struggle while another keeps working; a friend may log in fine during your failed queue. The status at the top of the page reflects user problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last day, and the site does not ping, probe, poll, or monitor Smite itself.

Questions

Smite FAQ

Is Smite down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. A high reading points to a wider issue; a normal reading does not prove everything is fine. To check your side, try another device on the same network, switch to mobile data, open a different online game, and check a plain website. If only the game fails, the problem is likely local.

Why does Smite get stuck on the login screen?

A stuck login can come from a local network problem or an account issue on Hi-Rez's side. Restart the game and your device, then try another connection. If the same account fails on every device, use the Hi-Rez help centre at http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/app/ask.

Why are my Smite gems missing after a purchase?

A purchase can lag behind the game client if the store page closes before the receipt finishes. Check your platform purchase history first; if the charge is there and gems are still absent, open a ticket with the Hi-Rez help centre at http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/app/ask and include the receipt. Do not buy again.

Why can't I link my Smite account to another platform?

Account linking fails most often because the platform account is already tied to a different Hi-Rez account, or because sign-in details for one side do not match. Unlink only through the official account settings, then confirm the same email and platform login before you try again. If the link still refuses, the Hi-Rez help centre at http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/app/ask can check the account state.

Why does Smite keep disconnecting during a match?

A disconnect in a match can come from packet loss on your connection or a server-side problem that hits many players. Test another online game on the same network, and switch from Wi-Fi to a wired link if you can. If only the game drops while everything else stays online, send the match details to the Hi-Rez help centre at http://hi-rez.custhelp.com/app/ask.

How we track Smite

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Smite, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Smite, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Smite doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
