Troubleshooting

How to fix Gran Turismo not working

Gran Turismo is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach gran-turismo.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Restart GT7

Press the PS button, highlight Gran Turismo 7, press the OPTIONS button, and choose Close Game on PS5 or Close Application on PS4. Open it again, then wait at the World Map before testing Sport mode or an online lobby.

  2. Test PlayStation sign-in

On PS5, go to Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. On PS4, go to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection; if sign-in fails, reconnect Wi-Fi or use a LAN cable and run the test again.

  3. Install GT7 updates

Highlight Gran Turismo 7 on the home screen, press the OPTIONS button, and choose Check for Update. For the console, use Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings > Update System Software on PS5, or Settings > System Software Update on PS4.

  4. Rebuild the console database

Turn the console fully off, then hold the power button until the second beep to open Safe Mode. Connect the controller with a USB cable; on PS5 choose Clear Cache and Rebuild Database, then Rebuild Database, while on PS4 choose option 5, Rebuild Database.

While Gran Turismo is down: what to use instead

  • Offline play Try any mode that starts without an online connection; it helps when online races, lobbies, or profile sync are the parts failing.
  • Forza Motorsport Use it on Xbox or PC if you want circuit racing while Gran Turismo services are having trouble.
  • Assetto Corsa Competizione Pick this if you want GT car racing on PC or console and do not need the PlayStation profile tied to this game.
  • F1 game series Use an EA Sports F1 title if you want a structured racing game with career and online modes while you wait.
About

What happens when Gran Turismo goes down

Gran Turismo is Sony and Polyphony Digital's PlayStation racing series, with Gran Turismo 7 on PS5 and PS4 tied to online saves, Sport Mode, multiplayer races, and livery sharing. Many US players who run daily races or keep a career save on console lose access to more than matchmaking when the service has trouble.

During an outage, online parts tend to fail before basic driving: Sport Mode may not load events, multiplayer lobbies can drop drivers, car liveries may not download, and progress may stop syncing. Menus can still open. You may see server maintenance or network error messages after a race, at sign in, in multiplayer, or when the game tries to save, even if your home connection works. Trouble can be regional or partial because PlayStation Network and the game servers are separate pieces; the status on this page comes from public user reports counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours, not from our own monitoring.

Questions

Gran Turismo FAQ

Is Gran Turismo down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports go to a public outage-reporting service; this site does not monitor the game servers or collect reports itself. If the status looks normal, test another online game on the same PlayStation and connection, then restart the game, console, and router. If friends can enter Sport Mode while you cannot, check your PSN sign-in, game update, NAT type, and Wi-Fi.

Why can’t I enter Sport Mode or Daily Races?

Sport Mode needs a working connection to the game servers and your PlayStation account. Short failure. If the mode hangs at matchmaking or returns to the menu, check that the game has the latest update, close it from the console home screen, and try again after a few minutes.

Why does Gran Turismo 7 say the server is undergoing maintenance?

That message usually means the online service is closed for work or an update is being applied. GT7 depends on its servers for many menus and progress checks, so offline play can feel limited during that period. Install any pending game update before you try again.

Why are my credits, garage, or campaign progress not loading?

GT7 ties a lot of progress to online save data, so a server or sign-in problem can make credits, cars, or menu progress look wrong for a while. Do not delete your save while the game is failing to sync. First confirm your PSN sign-in, then reopen the game after the connection is stable.

Why can I open gran-turismo.com but the in-game online modes still fail?

The website and the game’s online services are separate, so a news page can load while lobbies, profiles, or Sport Mode still fail. Browser access proves only that the site is reachable from your connection. On the console, check PSN sign-in and the game update before changing network settings.

How we track Gran Turismo

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Gran Turismo, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Gran Turismo, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Gran Turismo doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
