    Disconnect in the ExpressVPN app, then choose a different VPN location and connect again. A particular server may be having trouble even when the app opens normally.

  2. Check your internet connection

    Disconnect the VPN and open a webpage or another app that uses the internet. If that also fails, restart your Wi-Fi connection before trying ExpressVPN again.

  3. Switch the VPN protocol

    Open the app's Settings on mobile or Options on desktop, find VPN Protocol, and select Automatic. Reconnect, then try another available protocol if the connection still fails.

  4. Restart your device

    Close ExpressVPN, restart your device, and open the app again. This can clear a stuck connection or network setting that reconnecting alone does not fix.
