How to fix Diablo IV not working

Diablo IV is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach diablo4.blizzard.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Fully quit the game and launcher

    Closing the game window is not enough, because the Blizzard desktop app keeps running in the system tray and can hold on to a stale login session. Right click its tray icon, pick Exit, then reopen the app and press Play. On console, close the game from the home menu instead of leaving it suspended.

  2. Run Scan and Repair

    Damaged or missing game files cause crashes on launch and endless loading screens. In the Blizzard desktop app, select Diablo IV, click the gear icon next to the Play button and choose Scan and Repair. It takes longer on a hard drive than on an SSD.

  3. Reset your connection and drop the VPN

    If you sit in the login queue forever or get kicked out mid-dungeon, restart your router and plug in with an ethernet cable instead of Wi-Fi when you can. Turn off any VPN or proxy. Rubber banding often comes from packet loss on your own network, so a wired test shows you fast whether the problem is on your side.

  4. Update drivers, then reinstall

    On PC, install the latest graphics driver through your GPU maker's app and restart before you launch again. If crashes keep happening, uninstall the game from the Blizzard desktop app and reinstall it to a drive with plenty of free space. On console, delete it and redownload it from your game library.

What happens when Diablo IV goes down

Diablo IV is Blizzard's always-online action RPG for PC and consoles, so you need a live server connection even when you play solo. An outage kicks you out of whatever you were doing.

Login tends to break first: you sit in a queue that never moves, or the game tells you your login request timed out and sends you back to the title screen. Inside the world you get rubber-banding and monsters that freeze in place. When the server stalls during a dungeon or a Helltide, the game can disconnect you to the character screen, and party invites and the in-game shop often stop responding before the rest of the game does. Problems can be partial, hitting one platform or region while others keep playing, so a friend on a different console may see nothing wrong.

Is Diablo IV down right now?

If reports look normal but you still can't get in, restart the game and your router, then try a wired connection or a phone hotspot. When the game loads fine on the hotspot, the fault is with your home network or ISP and not the servers.

Why am I stuck in a login queue that won't move?
Queues build when a lot of players log in at once, which happens most at the start of a new season or right after a big patch. Leaving and rejoining puts you at the back of the line, so it pays to wait. If your position stays frozen for a long stretch, close the game fully and relaunch, because a counter that never changes often means the client lost its link to the queue.

Why does the game say it can't find a valid license?
You see this message when the game can't confirm that your account owns it. On PC, check which Blizzard account is signed in to the launcher, since a second account is the common cause; on Xbox or PlayStation, confirm your console account is linked to the Blizzard account that holds the purchase. If the account is right, sign out, sign back in and restart.

Can I play offline while the servers are down?
No. The game needs an internet connection for every mode, including the campaign and solo play, so a server outage locks you out. Your characters, gear and stash live on the server and are still there once it comes back.

Why does my character keep rubberbanding or lagging in town?
Rubberbanding, where your character snaps back a few steps, comes from latency or packet loss between you and the server. Pause downloads and streaming on the same network, and switch to a wired connection if you can. When the problem is on the server side, it shows up first in busy hubs like Kyovashad and many players report it at the same time.
