How to fix Genshin Impact not working

Genshin Impact is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Restart the game and check your server
Close Genshin Impact completely, including from the recent apps list on a phone, then open it again. On the title screen, look at the server name before you enter; if it shows a different region from the one your account plays on, your characters and progress will look missing and some logins fail. Switch it back.
Turn off your VPN and swap networks
Network errors and connection timeouts at login often come from a VPN, proxy or ad-blocking DNS sitting between you and the game servers, so turn those off first. If you are on Wi-Fi, try mobile data, or the other way round. A router restart clears a stuck connection too.
Log out and sign back in
Use the log out button on the title screen, then sign in again with your HoYoverse account. This fixes sessions that keep sending you back to the login prompt, which tends to happen after a password change or after you play on a second device.
Repair the game files or clear the cache
On PC, open the HoYoPlay launcher, click the settings icon beside the Start Game button and choose the repair option, which checks your files and redownloads any that are broken. On Android, tap Clear cache under Settings, Apps, Genshin Impact, Storage, but leave Clear storage alone unless you want to download everything again. If crashes continue after a reinstall, send the details through the help centre at https://genshin.hoyoverse.com/en/support.

While Genshin Impact is down: what to use instead

HoYoLAB The HoYoLAB app and website run apart from the game client, so you can often still claim the daily check-in and read the official maintenance notices while the game won't let you log in.
Honkai: Star Rail If the outage is only Genshin maintenance, your HoYoverse account may still get you into Star Rail, though a shared account or login failure will block both games.
Wuthering Waves Kuro Games runs it on its own servers, which means a HoYoverse outage won't touch it, and it plays on PC and mobile.
Genshin Impact help centre When a top-up hasn't arrived or your account won't sign in, file a ticket there with your UID and support can trace it once the servers are back.

What happens when Genshin Impact goes down

Genshin Impact is HoYoverse's open-world action RPG, played on PC, PlayStation, iOS and Android by people who log in every day for daily commissions and co-op domain runs with friends. An outage locks you out of the game world and the in-game shop, which hurts most when a timed event or banner is about to end.

Login usually fails first: the game hangs on the door screen after you tap to start, or it shows a network error and sends you back to the title screen. If you are already in the world, you may get kicked to the menu, and co-op sessions drop when the host loses connection. Top-ups and Genesis Crystal purchases can hang, so avoid retrying a payment over and over. Because America, Europe, Asia and TW/HK/MO each run on separate servers, trouble often hits one region while the others stay up, and HoYoLAB check-ins or web events can break on their own while the game itself works fine.

Is Genshin Impact down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows across the last 24 hours. If reports look normal, the fault is more likely on your end. Switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the reverse, and restart the game; if it connects on one network but not the other, your router or ISP is the problem.

Why can't I log in after a new version update?

On update day the servers close for maintenance, usually for several hours, and you get a maintenance notice or a network error until they reopen. Wait it out. Once the servers return, the game has to download new resource files, and if that download stalls you can restart the launcher or free up storage, because a full drive is a common cause.

Can I move my account to a different server region?

No. Each server (America, Europe, Asia and TW/HK/MO) keeps its own save, so characters on one region do not exist on another, even under the same HoYoverse account. Picking the wrong region is easy to do, so check the server selector on the login screen before you assume your progress is gone.

Why won't co-op mode let me join a friend?

You both need Adventure Rank 16 and accounts on the same server region, because co-op does not work across regions. If those match and joining still fails, the host may be in a quest that blocks co-op, or their world permissions may be set to require approval or to let no one in. Frequent drops mid-session point to an unstable connection, and when the host disconnects everyone gets sent back to their own world.

I bought Genesis Crystals but they never showed up. What now?

Log out and back in first. On mobile, check your App Store or Google Play purchase history to confirm the charge went through, since a pending payment can take a while to clear. If you were charged and the crystals are still missing, contact support through the help centre at https://genshin.hoyoverse.com/en/support with your order number and UID.
