Troubleshooting

How to fix Dish Network not working

Dish Network is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach dish.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check the TV input and receiver power

Press the Input or Source button on the TV remote until the correct HDMI source for the receiver appears; a blank screen often comes from a source mismatch. The receiver front panel should show power. If it is dark, check the power cord at the receiver and the wall outlet.

  2. Clear snow or leaves from the dish

Look at the dish from a safe spot, and clear snow or leaves that block its face, since wet weather and debris can drop the signal. Do not climb on a roof; use a broom from the ground only if you can reach it safely.

  3. Power cycle the Hopper or Wally

Unplug the receiver power cord from the wall, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Let the receiver finish its startup screen. If you have a Hopper and Joey, power cycle the Hopper first, then check the Joey after the Hopper returns.

  4. Check the Satellite In and HDMI cables

Turn off the receiver, then check the coaxial cable from the wall to the Satellite In port and the HDMI cable from the receiver to the TV. Push each cable in until it seats and retest. Do not touch outdoor dish cabling if it is damaged; call a technician instead.

While Dish Network is down: what to use instead

  • Over-the-air antenna An antenna pulls in local broadcasts if the satellite signal drops.
  • Netflix Netflix has on-demand shows and movies when your internet works, so you can keep watching while the receiver is offline or stuck on a blank screen.
  • YouTube YouTube has news clips and music videos.
  • Dish customer service line The Dish customer service line lets you report an outage or check whether the problem is on your account, especially if the app or site will not load.

About

What happens when Dish Network goes down

Dish Network is a satellite TV service that carries live channels, DVR recordings, on-demand titles and app streams to homes and small businesses, and many viewers use its Hopper receiver or mobile app as their main way to watch. When it falters, live TV and DVR playback can stall at once, which cuts off routine viewing and disrupts plans around a specific program.

Live TV fails first. The receiver can sit on 'Acquiring Signal' or drop channels while the guide still loads, and DVR playback or on-demand titles may then stall or refuse to start when the box cannot reach the service. App playback has its own symptoms: a title loads but never plays, or the sign-in screen loops back after you enter your details. Problems often hit a subset such as one market, one receiver model, one app platform or one stretch of channels, and the page counts clusters of problem reports in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours without pinging or probing the service itself.

Questions

Dish Network FAQ

Is Dish Network down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. That reading does not test your own gear. Restart the receiver and check the cable at the back. Try Dish Anywhere on cellular data; if other devices on your home network still work and the receiver keeps showing 'Complete signal loss,' the fault is on your side.

What does the Complete Signal Loss message mean on my receiver?

That message means the receiver has lost the satellite signal, often after heavy rain or a loose cable at the back of the box. Check the cable first, then clear snow or debris from the dish face if you can reach it. If the message stays after a receiver restart, the dish may need realignment.

How do I get a Joey to find the Hopper again?

A Joey that cannot find the Hopper often has a network issue between the two, so check the Hopper is awake and the coax is tight. Restart the Joey by unplugging it for a minute. If it still searches, check the Ethernet link at the Hopper and the MoCA setting if you use one.

Why does MyDISH show a payment failed message?

A failed payment in MyDISH often points to an expired card or a billing ZIP mismatch. Update the card and the billing ZIP, then retry. If the same message stays, call your bank before another attempt, because repeated tries can add holds.

Why does Dish Anywhere stop casting to my TV?

Dish Anywhere can stop casting when the phone and the TV box drop off the same Wi-Fi network, or when a program has mobile viewing limits. Reconnect both devices to the same network, then start the cast again. For DVR playback, let the recording finish downloading before you cast it.

How we track Dish Network

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Dish Network, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Dish Network, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Dish Network doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
