Open the app and tap Quick Connect instead of reusing the server you picked earlier, since a stale tunnel is the usual reason it sits on Connecting. If that changes nothing, sign out of your account and sign back in. Both take seconds and clear most one-off dropouts.
Switch the VPN protocol
Go to Settings, then VPN settings, then Protocol. Try OpenVPN with UDP in place of WireGuard, and move to TCP if UDP keeps collapsing, because some networks block one protocol and let the other through. Reconnect after the change.
Try another location
Pick a different city or country from the location list; one server can be overloaded or blocked while the rest of the network works. If every location fails on the same wifi, test on your phone's hotspot, because the router itself may be stopping VPN traffic.
Do a clean reinstall
Delete the app, restart the device, then install it again from your platform's store and sign in, since leftover config files sometimes survive updates and keep breaking the connection. What happens when Surfshark goes down

Surfshark is a VPN service that routes your traffic through remote servers, and you use it on phones, laptops, routers, and smart TVs to keep browsing private or reach content blocked on your local network. When it drops, work calls and streaming fail.

Connecting stalls first. The app may hang on the login screen, fail to load the server list, drop the tunnel seconds after it comes up, or show a connection error instead of a working status. Switching locations can time out, and the Kill Switch may block all traffic when the tunnel dies, leaving you without internet until you disconnect. Outages are often partial or regional: one server cluster or country goes down while other locations keep working, so a quick switch sometimes restores access.

Why does Surfshark connect but no websites load?

Can I use Surfshark on my router or smart TV?
