How to fix GMX not working

GMX is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

What happens when GMX goes down

GMX is a free email service with webmail plus iOS and Android apps, and you might rely on it for work, school, family, and personal messages. When it goes down, you cannot sign in, and sending, receiving, saved folders, or cloud access may fail.

Sign-in often breaks first. The webmail page may time out or the mobile app can say it cannot connect, even though your other apps work fine. If you stay signed in, the inbox loads empty, and sending or receiving mail stalls because the mail servers are not responding. Cloud storage and the address book tend to fail later, and problems can be partial or regional, so the webmail might work while the app does not, or the service might be down in one area and fine in another.

Is GMX down right now?

The status at the top of this page compares user problem reports for the service with the usual level, using 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. That reading does not prove an outage on its own because the site does not ping or probe GMX. If the official status page is linked above, check it for a notice; to rule out your side, try loading GMX in a browser on another network, such as mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and sign in from a different device. If the web login works there but your app fails, the problem is likely your app, your password, your device, or your connection.

Why does the GMX app reject my password when the website accepts it?

Mobile apps can fail when they still have an old password saved, even if the browser login works with the new one. Delete the account from the app and add it again, then type the full email address as the username. If the app still rejects it, use the help centre to check the current incoming mail server settings, because a wrong server name will look like a password error.

Sending fails in GMX but incoming mail works. What should I check?

Sending usually uses a different outgoing server than receiving, so one can work while the other fails. Check the SMTP server name and authentication setting in the help centre, then make sure your mail app uses those values. If sending also fails in the web interface, the issue may be your account or the service, so contact the help centre.

What makes GMX Cloud files show as unavailable?

Cloud access often breaks when your session expires or the app loses permission to your storage. Sign out and back in, then open the Cloud in a browser to see if the files load there. If the browser works, update or reinstall the app on your phone, and check that the device has free space for downloads.

How do I fix GMX app mail that only syncs when I open it?

Phone battery settings can pause background sync, so the app only checks for mail when you launch it. Allow the app to run in the background and turn off battery optimization for it if your phone has that option. A changed password can also stop sync without a clear warning, so sign in again if the last sync happened before that change.
