Open Settings > Cellular and turn on Cellular Data for the app. If you use Wi-Fi, rejoin your network from Settings > Wi-Fi. Then reopen it.
Turn on Location Services for Maps
Open Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services and set the app to While Using the App or Always. Turn on Precise Location, then reopen it.
Set date and time automatically
Open Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. If it is already on, toggle it off and on, then reopen the app. A wrong clock can block map downloads.
Reset Location & Privacy
Open Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone, then tap Reset > Reset Location & Privacy. Enter your passcode and allow location access again in Maps, since this clears location permissions for every app.

Is Apple Maps down right now?

To rule out your own connection, switch between Wi-Fi and cellular and open a second device on the same network; if the app fails on one and works on the other, the trouble sits at your end.

Why does Apple Maps say Directions Not Available?

The service built no path between your start point and your destination, which happens with new addresses, closed roads, or a start pin that landed off the road. Drag the pin onto the street itself and set your start to Current Location, then ask for the route again. When walking routes fail while driving works, the mode you chose is the problem, not the app.

Why does the blue dot show me in the wrong place?

Location Services can settle for a rough guess from nearby Wi-Fi, which puts the dot a street or two off. Open Settings, go to Privacy and Security, then Location Services, then Maps, and turn on Precise Location. Test outdoors with a clear view of the sky, since buildings and parking garages bend the signal.

Why is the map blank on CarPlay?

A blank or frozen map on the car screen usually comes from the phone connection rather than the service. Unplug the cable, wait a few seconds, and plug it back in; with wireless CarPlay, remove the car from your phone and pair it again. Look at the phone screen while the car display sits empty, because that tells you which side failed.

Why won't a downloaded map open without a signal?

An offline map covers only the box you drew when you saved it, so searches outside that area still need data. Voice guidance works inside the saved region, but live traffic and road closures go stale. If the download stalls at the same point every time, free up storage space and start it again on Wi-Fi.
