How to fix Instagram not working

Instagram is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach instagram.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Force quit Instagram

    On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and pause, then swipe Instagram off the top; on Android, open Recents and swipe the app card away. Reopen it. A frozen screen or stuck loading spinner can clear before you change any settings.

  2. Switch Instagram to cellular

    Turn off Wi-Fi in Control Center or Quick Settings, then load the app over cellular data. If it works, your Wi-Fi router or DNS is the problem, so restart the router or forget the network and join it again. Mobile data can fail too, so test another network when you can.

  3. Log out and back in

    Open your profile, tap the menu button, then Settings and activity, then Log out. Sign in again with your username and password. A stale session can leave feeds blank or show 'Couldn't refresh feed' even when the service is fine for everyone else.

  4. Reinstall Instagram

    Restart your phone, then delete and reinstall the app from the App Store or Google Play. On Android, you can first try Settings > Apps > Instagram > Storage & cache > Clear cache; if that fails, clear storage and sign in again. This replaces corrupted app files when a blank screen or constant crash survives a restart.

Open another app on the same Wi-Fi and then switch to mobile data; if other apps load and the app does not, and it works for someone on a different network, the problem is local.

Why does Instagram say 'Sorry, something went wrong' when I try to log in?
That message can mean the app cannot reach the login service, or it can mean your saved session is stale. Try the web login first. If the web login works, force close the app and sign in again on mobile data; if that still fails, reinstall the app.

Why do Reels buffer but the rest of the Instagram feed loads fine?
Reels pull video from different hosts than photos and Stories, so a partial outage or a bad route can hit video while the feed still loads. Test a few Reels on Wi-Fi and then on mobile data. If only Reels stall, clear the app cache on Android or reinstall on iOS. Try the same clip in a browser to rule out your phone.
