Troubleshooting

How to fix 2degrees not working

When 2degrees itself is having trouble, these steps won't bring it back, but they will rule out anything on your side:

Your browser tries to reach 2degreesmobile.co.nz over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Toggle airplane mode for 2degrees

Turn airplane mode on for 10 seconds, then off, and watch the signal bars; this makes the phone re-register on the 2degrees network and clears a stuck data session. If bars stay empty, move on.

  2. Check mobile data and 2degrees APN

On iPhone go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network; on Android open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile network > Access Point Names. Set APN to 2degrees. A blank or wrong APN blocks data while calls still connect, so save the change and test a web page.

  3. Restart the phone on 2degrees

Power the phone off completely, wait 30 seconds, and turn it back on; a full restart clears a modem fault that an airplane toggle can miss. Test a call and a web page before you change more settings.

  4. Reset network settings for 2degrees

On iPhone go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings; this wipes saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth pairings but can fix a corrupted carrier profile. On Android open Settings > System > Reset options and choose Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth; Samsung puts the same reset under Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings. Do this last.

While 2degrees is down: what to use instead

  • Wi-Fi A home, work or public Wi-Fi connection lets you keep using messaging apps and web pages when mobile data drops.
  • Spark A Spark SIM or eSIM in a spare phone gives you another network for calls, texts and data if the mobile signal fails.
  • One NZ Use a One NZ SIM or eSIM in a spare handset to make calls and use data while your usual network is out.
  • Skinny A Skinny SIM in a spare phone gives you calls, texts and data on a different network while the outage lasts.
Same time

Problems at the same time as 2degrees

Since 28 October, all 2 of 2degrees's spikes in problem reports overlapped a spike at another service.

When several services get problem reports at once, something they share, such as a cloud host or a network, can be the real cause. Matching times alone do not prove it.

A spike is a sharp rise in problem reports from users, as the live pages showed it. Times are Central European time.

About

What happens when 2degrees goes down

2degrees is a New Zealand mobile and broadband provider, and people rely on it for calls, texts, mobile data and home internet. An outage cuts off calls and home internet.

On a mobile outage, your phone may show No service or Emergency calls only, calls fail before they connect, texts sit unsent, and mobile data stalls or drops to nothing. Data often goes first. The handset can keep a signal bar while the data session dies, and a full site outage then takes calls with it. Broadband trouble shows up as a router light turning red or amber and pages timing out; video calls freeze mid-sentence, and problems can stay local to a cell site or suburb or hit the account app across the country, so a working phone in another town does not prove the service is fine.

Questions

2degrees FAQ

Is 2degrees down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports for the service are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. The site does not ping or probe the network, so the number reflects reports rather than a live test. To see if the problem is only on your side, switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, try another device on the same connection, restart your phone, and reseat the SIM.

Why does my 2degrees mobile data stop working while Wi-Fi is fine?

A weak mobile signal or a data setting that got switched off can leave you with bars but no internet. Check that mobile data is on and toggle airplane mode for a few seconds. If another phone on the same plan has data, the problem is likely your handset; if it does not, the account or network side needs a look.

Why do I get 'No service' on my 2degrees phone?

That message usually points to a lost network connection on the phone rather than a service-wide outage. Reseat the SIM and check that airplane mode is off. Try the SIM in another handset if you can; if it still shows 'No service', the SIM or the account needs support.

Why can't I log in to the My 2degrees app?

Login failures often come from a stale password or a verification text that never arrives. Reset the password in the app and check that your phone can receive SMS. Try again on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi; if the app still rejects the login, the account may be locked and support can check it.

Why did my 2degrees top-up or bill payment fail?

A failed card or a bank block can stop a top-up or bill payment from going through. Check the card details and try another payment method. Confirm your bank has not flagged the charge; if the payment shows as pending, wait for it to clear before trying again so you do not pay twice.

How we track 2degrees

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for 2degrees, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for 2degrees, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. 2degrees doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
