How to fix Canva not working

Canva is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Hard refresh the editor
A blank canvas or a toolbar that never finishes loading usually clears with a hard refresh: press Ctrl+F5 on Windows or Cmd+Shift+R on a Mac, and in the desktop or mobile app quit it fully before opening it again. When one design stalls but others open fine, duplicate it from the File menu and carry on in the copy.
Open it in a private window
Ad blockers and extension scripts break uploads and the Download button, so load the editor in a private window where none of them run. If the page behaves there, switch extensions off one at a time in your normal window until the fault comes back.
Clear cookies and sign in again
Stale cookies cause sign-in loops and saves that never finish, even when nothing is wrong on the service side. Open your browser settings, clear cookies and cached files for the last day, then sign in again and reopen the design from your Projects page. The padlock icon in the address bar does the same job for one site.
Check the status page, then contact support

While Canva is down: what to use instead

Desktop app or browser If the editor hangs on a blank canvas in your browser, open the desktop app for Windows or Mac instead (or the reverse), because that rules out a bad extension or stale cache, though it won't help when the service itself is failing.
Adobe Express Good for a quick social post or flyer.
Google Slides or PowerPoint When a deck is due within the hour, rebuild it from a PDF or images you exported earlier; the templates are plainer, but the content gets on screen.
Figma Your team may already have it, and it handles banners, mockups and simple layouts if you know your way around frames.

What happens when Canva goes down

Canva is a browser and app based design tool for templates, social posts, presentations and documents. Small teams, schools, marketers and solo creators rely on it, so an outage interrupts work in progress, a scheduled publish or a client handoff.

The editor is usually where trouble shows first. A design may open to a blank canvas, spin on a loading state, refuse to save or lose an upload before a photo appears. Exports and presentations often fail next, while comments and live collaboration lag or drop out even when the rest of the app still responds. Problems are often partial or regional: one feature can break while the dashboard loads, and reports may cluster by country or platform, so the whole service is rarely down at once.

Why does Canva keep saying 'Something went wrong' when I open a design?

That message usually means the editor failed to load part of the design, not that the whole service is offline. Reload the page, then duplicate the design and open the copy; if only the original fails, the file has a bad element. If every design fails, sign out and try another browser.

Why won't Canva upload my photos or video clips?

Large files and unsupported formats can stall at the upload step. Try a smaller copy or a different format, and switch from Wi-Fi to mobile data to rule out your network. If the same file fails on both, the file itself is the likely cause.

Why did my Canva Pro payment go through but my account still shows the free plan?

If you bought Pro through the App Store or Google Play, the subscription is tied to that store account, so sign in with the same ID and restore purchases. For web billing, check the email on the receipt and confirm you are signed into that account; a second login is a common mix-up.

Why does Canva download a blank PDF or stop at the video export screen?

A blank PDF often comes from a font or image that did not load before export; reload the editor, wait for every thumbnail, then try again. Video exports can fail when the tab sleeps or the connection drops, so keep the tab open and export a shorter clip first.
