How to fix IONOS not working

IONOS is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Open the official status page to see if problem reports for the service are above their usual level. If they are, wait and retry later; if they are not, the fault is likely local to your device or network.
Try IONOS on mobile data
Turn off Wi-Fi on your phone and load the site over mobile data, or connect your computer to a phone hotspot. If the service works there, your router or local firewall is the problem; restart the router and check any firewall rules for the app or browser.
Flush DNS for IONOS
On Windows, open Command Prompt as administrator and run ipconfig /flushdns. On macOS, run sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder in Terminal. After either command, retry the service.

Fix: Clear your web browser's cache and flush your Windows DNS cache to resolve connection issues to the IONOS Control Panel. If you are using IONOS email, verify your security and port settings in your mail client.

Fix: Clear the cache and data for the IONOS Mobile App or your mobile browser from your Android settings. If you are using a VPN, temporarily disable it to connect to IONOS services.

Check: Check if the IONOS app has any pending updates in the App Store. Try opening the IONOS website in a private Safari tab to determine if the issue is app-specific.

What happens when IONOS goes down

IONOS is a web hosting and cloud provider for small businesses and developers. An outage interrupts the sites you publish, the mail you send and receive, the domains that route visitors to your site and the control panel you use to manage all of it.

When trouble hits, the first sign is often the control panel or webmail login hanging, while a site that is already cached may still load. Hosted sites then return server errors or time out, and mail clients fail to connect to IMAP or SMTP, so messages queue instead of arriving. DNS failures make your domain resolve slowly or not at all. Problems are often partial, with one region or one service failing while other parts keep working, so check the official status page and help centre before you change anything.

Why does my IONOS email keep asking for my password?

Mail clients often lose the saved password after a server change, and some apps need an app password instead of your main account password. Sign in to webmail first. If that works, update the password in Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, or the IONOS Mail app; if webmail also rejects you, reset the password from the account login page and wait a few minutes before trying again.

Why does my IONOS website show a 500 error while the control panel works?

A 500 error usually comes from the site's PHP or database layer rather than the hosting account itself. The control panel loading means the account is reachable. Check recent plugin or theme changes in WordPress, then restore a backup or switch to a default theme if the error started after an update.

Why is my IONOS domain still pointing to the old site after I changed the DNS?

DNS changes move through resolvers at different speeds, and your device or router may hold a cached copy for longer than expected. Flush your DNS cache. If the old page still appears, test the domain on a phone with mobile data and check the control panel for a wrong A record or CNAME target.

Why does the IONOS app log me out or fail to load my invoices?

The app needs a stable session, so a weak connection or an outdated app version can drop you back to the login screen. Update the app. If the browser works but the app does not, clear the app cache or reinstall it; if the browser also fails, the account or billing service may be the problem.
