Troubleshooting

How to fix Deutsche GigaNetz not working

Deutsche GigaNetz is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach deutsche-giganetz.de over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Check the Deutsche GigaNetz Wi-Fi

Open Wi-Fi on the device and confirm it is connected to your home network. On Windows 11, go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi; on iPhone, use Settings > Wi-Fi and switch mobile data off under Settings > Cellular while you test.

  2. Restart the fibre box

Unplug the power from the fibre termination box and your router. Wait 30 seconds, plug the fibre box back in first, then plug in the router after the fibre box shows its normal power and line lights.

  3. Test the router by cable

Connect a laptop to a LAN port on the router with an Ethernet cable, then turn Wi-Fi off on that laptop. On Windows, open Terminal and run ipconfig; if you get a normal local address from the router but pages still fail, the problem is past the device.

  4. Check the FRITZ!Box log

If your Deutsche GigaNetz connection uses a FRITZ!Box, open http://fritz.box and go to System > Event Log. Look for repeated internet connection drops, DNS errors, or failed registration messages; save the wording before you contact the provider.

While Deutsche GigaNetz is down: what to use instead

  • Mobile hotspot If the home fibre line is unusable, share your phone connection from Telekom, Vodafone, or o2 and pause large downloads.
  • Another broadband connection A spare line from Telekom, Vodafone, o2, or 1&1 helps when you need work access and can switch Wi-Fi networks.
  • Recent bill or contract Use the contact details and customer number printed there when the website login will not load.
  • Router and fibre box check If only your home is affected, power-cycle the router and fibre box, then wait a few minutes before you test again.
About

What happens when Deutsche GigaNetz goes down

Deutsche GigaNetz is a German telecom provider for fibre broadband and fixed-line phone service. Households and small businesses rely on it for home internet, VoIP calling, and work access, so an outage can stop browsing, calls, video meetings, and connected devices.

A fibre fault can leave your router online for Wi-Fi while web pages still time out, because the home network is up but the internet link is gone. Phone service can fail after that, with calls not connecting or the line showing as unavailable. Problems are often regional or partial, tied to a town, neighbourhood, or local network segment rather than every Deutsche GigaNetz customer at once.

Questions

Deutsche GigaNetz FAQ

Is Deutsche GigaNetz down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports go to a public outage-reporting service, and this page does not monitor the service or collect reports itself. Check your side by restarting the router and fiber box, trying a wired device, testing mobile data, and asking a nearby customer if their line is out too.

Why does my Deutsche GigaNetz fiber line show a connection, but pages still will not load?

Your router can show an internet connection while DNS, Wi-Fi, or the device you are using still blocks browsing. Try one device on a network cable, then try another browser or app. If wired access works but Wi-Fi fails, change the router placement or restart only the Wi-Fi part before you assume the fiber line is down.

What should I check if the fiber box or router has no internet light?

Start with power, because a loose plug can look like a line fault. Check that the fiber cable sits firmly and has no sharp bend, then restart the fiber box and router with a short pause between them. If the optical or internet light stays off after that, the fault is likely past your own device and needs provider support.

Why can I browse, but my Deutsche GigaNetz phone line will not make calls?

The phone service runs through the internet router, so calls can fail even while websites open. Restart the router, check that the phone is registered in the router menu, and test the handset or cable. If incoming and outgoing calls both fail, keep notes on the time and what the router shows before you contact support.

Can a new fiber activation look like an outage?

Yes. After installation, a new FTTH line may still need provider-side activation before the router gets full service. Check the order or activation message you received, and avoid changing router settings at random while the line is being switched on.

How we track Deutsche GigaNetz

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for Deutsche GigaNetz, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for Deutsche GigaNetz, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. Deutsche GigaNetz doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
