User reports, last 24 hours

72 reports in total, counted in 15-minute windows

In the last hour, 1 problem report came in for BankID, and at this time of day there are usually almost none. Over the last 24 hours there were 72 reports. There has been no spike in reports since 4 November. These are user reports from Sweden, where most people report BankID problems.

In the past 24 hours, 72 user reports came in for BankID. Counting only the 15-minute windows with a spike big enough to count as an outage, that comes to 100.00% uptime for the day. The busiest 15-minute window had 6 reports, about 14 hours ago. That stays below our outage threshold, so it doesn't count as downtime.

Troubleshooting

How to fix BankID not working

BankID is up on our end, so if it won't work for you, the problem is most likely on your side. Work through these in order:

Your browser tries to reach bankid.com over your own connection, right now. Nothing is sent to us or stored.

  1. Allow the BankID camera

If the QR scanner opens to a black screen or cannot scan, give the app camera access. On iPhone, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera > BankID and turn it on. On Android, go to Settings > Apps > BankID > Permissions > Camera > Allow.

  2. Set automatic time

A wrong clock can make a login or signing request time out after you approve it. On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Date & Time and turn on Set Automatically. On Android, go to Settings > System > Date & time and turn on Set time automatically.

  3. Update the BankID app

If the app opens but the request never appears, update it before you try again. On iPhone, open App Store > your profile picture, then update BankID if it is listed. On Android, open Play Store > your profile picture > Manage apps & device > Updates available, then update it there.

  4. Get a new Mobile BankID

If the app says there is no valid BankID, or you have forgotten the security code, you usually need a new one from your bank. On iPhone, touch and hold the app, then choose Remove App > Delete App before installing it again. On Android, go to Settings > Apps > BankID > Uninstall, then install it again and order a new Mobile BankID through your bank's app or website.

While BankID is down: what to use instead

  • Freja eID Use it where the site or app offers Freja as a sign-in or signing method.
  • Bank security device For bank errands, use your bank’s card reader, code device, or telephone banking if your bank offers it.
  • Physical ID For public agencies, pharmacies, or in-person service, bring a Swedish ID card, passport, or driving licence when online login is blocked.
  • Card or invoice payment If a purchase or Swish payment cannot be approved in the app, use a payment card or invoice choice from the merchant.
About

What happens when BankID goes down

BankID is Sweden’s electronic ID and signing service, used through the BankID app by banks, government agencies, health services, and online shops. When it has trouble, you can be blocked from logging in, approving a payment, signing a form, or identifying yourself in a bank app.

Login usually shows it first: the site asks you to open the app, but the request does not appear, the QR code keeps changing, the approval page spins, or the session times out. Signing can fail after you enter your security code, so payments, Swish confirmations, loan documents, and public service forms may sit unfinished. On a phone, the handoff between the browser and the ID app can loop back to the start; on desktop, the QR step may be the part that stalls. Problems can be partial because a bank, agency, merchant, or payment service has its own flow, so one approval may fail while another still works.

Questions

BankID FAQ

Is BankID down right now?

The status at the top of this page shows whether user problem reports are above their usual level, counted in 15 minute windows over the last 24 hours. Those reports are sent to a public outage reporting service; this site does not monitor BankID and collects no reports itself. Try the app with both wifi and mobile data, then restart the phone if it still will not open. If one bank or shop fails while another login starts the app and shows the same kind of request, the problem is probably on that service’s side.

Why does the BankID app keep loading after I scan a QR code?

A stuck QR login can come from an old session, a weak connection, or the site that created the code. Close the request, refresh the website, and scan the new QR code rather than reusing the old one. If the app still spins, update it from the app store and check that your phone’s time is set by the network.

Why can I log in to my bank but not sign a Swish payment with BankID?

Swish sends a separate signing request, so a normal bank login can work while a payment approval fails. Cancel the payment and start it again, then check the amount and recipient before you sign. If the request never reaches the app, update both Swish and the ID app.

Can I use BankID when I am outside Sweden?

You can use an existing, valid Swedish ID abroad if the app is already set up and the phone has internet access. Issuing a new one is different, because your bank controls that process and may require Swedish account details or its own login method. If you changed phone while travelling, you may need to contact the issuing bank.

What should I do if the app says no BankID is found or asks me to order a new one?

That usually means the phone has no active ID, or the old one has expired, been blocked, or was removed with the app. Open your Swedish bank’s app or website and follow its steps to issue a new Mobile BankID. If you still have a working ID on another device, keep it until the new one is active.

How we track BankID

The status on this page comes from user-submitted problem reports for BankID, counted in 15-minute windows over the last 24 hours. Each window is compared with the normal level for BankID, so a few complaints on a quiet day don't trigger anything, but a sudden jump well above normal does.

When reports climb well above normal, the status here changes to partial outage or major outage and the chart moves with it. BankID doesn't publish a public status page that we know of, so user reports are often the quickest sign that something is wrong on their side.
